Just past the maintenance area were the Ochthera crawlers, one tight against the port-side hull, one tight against the starboard. Flat black paint made the bulky armored personnel carriers look more like large shadows than high-tech deliverers of death. Their legs were folded up tight against their fuselages. Their wings were retracted—there wasn’t enough room in the pouch to extend them. Wings were only needed for atmospheric ops, which Raiders rarely performed.

An Ochthera had both a front-mounted six-barreled minigun, operated by the co-pilot, and a top turret with twin .50-cal machine guns, manned by the engineer-gunner. Even in the worst STC fuckery, those weapons could wipe a hull clean of any enemy troops.
