A Founding Father of Podcasting

from In early 2005, Scott learned of this newfangled thing called "podcasting." Long before podcasts were part of the Apple store, Scott saw the medium's potential for serializing audiobooks — for free — across the English-speaking world.
He learned how to make an RSS feed, how to record audio, built a "studio" in the closet of his San Francisco apartment, and dove in headlong.
Scott was one of the first people in the world to podcast a fiction property, along with Tee Morris (MORAVI) and Mark Jeffrey (THE POCKET AND THE PENDANT).
EARTHCORE proved to be a runaway success, garnering thousands of weekly listeners from across the globe. He followed that tale up with his second serialized audiobook, ANCESTOR.
When the ANCESTOR podcast was nearly finished, Scott put the book on Amazon as a paperback. This was before eBooks were on the Amazon store, so it was his book against all the books Amazon had to offer. ANCESTOR shot to #1 on Amazon's Horror and SciFi charts, and was the #2 book in the entire store, behind only to HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE.
That was an astonishing accomplishment for any author, let alone an independent novelist with no marketing budget. The charting was a wake-up call for Big Publishing — Scott's novel INFECTED went to auction, with Random House winning the rights, then inking Scott to a five-book major hardcover deal.
