Last week, I began the re-write of my novel EARTHCORE. The first step of this journey, of course, is to create a new document (I use Scrivener for my writing). I needed to import the most-recent version of the story into this document, as this is a re-write rather than […]Continue Reading →
Book II of Pierce Brown's RED RISING trilogy
As a novelist, I realize I’m supposed to keep some level of analytical distance in order to critique to structure, form, plot, pacing, character development, etc., but for the RED RISING series, my button-pushing brain simply shuts off about five pages in — much as it does with the GAME OF THRONES series. Like an amoeba surrounding a hapless paramecium, Pierce Brown’s debut series simply engulfs me.
The single best thing I can say about GOLDEN SON and the series is this: I wish I could live in this world. Which is weird, considering …Continue Reading →
After working on a book for almost two years, having your biz partner go over it, two copy editors go over it, having a dedicated continuity editor go over it, and then reading it out loud for the audiobook, some mistakes still get through. And when the mistake is as butt-hurtin’ as the one below, […]Continue Reading →

Time marches on, yes, but some some plots don't
A short review of the DVD for ROSEMARY’S BABY, the 2014 made-for-TV miniseries remake of the 1968 classic.
If you’ve never seen the original, I highly recommend it. Based on the 1967 novel by Ira Levin, ROSEMARY’S BABY tells the tale of a struggling young couple that move into a hoity-toity Manhattan apartment building.
Sometimes, shit just blows you away.
I’ve wanted to be a fiction writer since I was in the sixth grade. I’ve been a professional writer for over twenty-five years. I sat down about twenty years ago and set my sights on becoming a full-time novelist, accomplished that goal six years ago. Along the way, there […]Continue Reading →
Volume II of THE APOCALYPSE TRIPTYCH
My latest story is out, “The Sixth Day of Deer Camp.” It is part of THE END IS HERE anthology, Book II of the “Apocalypse Tryptic.”
This story is the sequel to “The Fifth Day of Deer Camp” (see what I did there?) which was in the first volume of this trilogy, THE END IS NIGH. You want Yoopers up against the apocalypse? Brothers and sisters, I provide, eh?
Will it be podcast?
No, because the anthology isn’t “mine.” John Joseph Adams and Hugh Howey put this series together.
Will there be an audiobook?
Yes, but I don’t know when it will be out. I recorded the audio for my story, so you can continue to revel in my Yooper accents.
Waitaminute ... Scarlet Johansson gets nekkid?
So, you’ve got Scarlett Johansson driving a van around the streets of Glasgow, picking up single young men and taking them back to her place for a bit of the ol’ hanky panky. How could that possibly be a bad thing? Introduce a vat of random black goo, that’s how. Duh. It’s like Screenwriting 101, really.

Oh no! He speaks against the party line!
I catch a lot of crap because I am a fan of Bud Light. All you hoity-toity beer snobs lecture me nonstop on drinking “water” or “shit beer,” etc.
On every book tour, it’s the same damn thing: “Why don’t you let me buy you a real beer?” Or, “What, are you still in college?” Follow […]Continue Reading →
(a.k.a., "Damn, it feels good to be a gangster")
Boom! I say, I say, boom!
This is one of the best feelings in the biz, people — sending off a completed manuscript to an editor. We’re ballparking Summer 2015 for this release, but I can’t say for sure until the editor at Del Rey does his thing.
This is effectively the final draft, as he […]Continue Reading →
All four GFL novels available on iTunes/Audible/Amazon
That’s right, Junkies, THE ROOKIE is finally available as a full-length, unabridged, ad-free audiobook. You can get the whole honkin’ 17-hour audiobook and enjoy the smashmouth scifi, the gridiron gore, and the quest for the ring (GFL championship ring, that is).
ALL FOUR GFL AUDIOBOOKS
Just in time for you to bone up before THE CHAMPION hits in September, 2014.
• THE ROOKIE
• THE STARTER
• THE ALL-PRO
• THE MVP
• THE CHAMPION (Sept. 2014).
ALREADY GOT THE ROOKIE? THEN LEAVE A REVIEW, MANG!
It’s brand-new, so the reviews at Audible and iTunes are looking a bit bare. If you listened to the story already and don’t want to experience this gritty coming-of-age story a second time, do us a favor and leave a review (or two, or in all three places). Reviews are author gold and one of the best ways to show your love for a work.
The world of Hunter Hunterson in your hot little hands
So, you wanna pull a ticket on a methed-out, parole-jumping goblin? You want to stomp that undead ass? You want to whack a werewolf, mash a mage, destroy a devil, lay the smacketh-down on a sasquatch and more? Now you can (just remember to watch your privates if you square off against the rabid unicorns).
You and yours can play Storium, a cool new storytelling game that has one (of many) fictional settings in “Slayerville,” the hometown of Hunter Hunterson and his kin. Here’s how they list it on their site:
This is a stretch goal for the Storium Kickstarter, which involves some of our best author buddies such as J.C. Hutchins, Mur Lafferty, Chuck Wendig and more. Check out their Kickstarter page here, and/or watch the video above that explains how the game works.Continue Reading →
Contains Scott's first vampire story: "Hippo"
The second book in Jonathan Maberry’s V-WARS series, BLOOD & FIRE cranks up the carnage to “11,” thanks in no small part to my story “Hippo.” Yes, this is my first vampire story, and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever read. This delicious & twisted tale will leave you hungry for more (or sick to the stomach, really kind of depends on your tastes … ).
It’s been one year since a virus triggered junk DNA and people all over the world started changing. Becoming something else. Craving blood. It’s been ten months since the word ‘vampire’ stopped being something from old monster stories and Hollywood movies. It’s been six months since our world and theirs erupted into war. It’s been two months since an uneasy peace was signed. It’s been one hour since that peace was shattered. The war is here again. The vampire war. Our world will burn. Our world will bleed! When anyone can turn, when every street is a battlefield, there is nowhere to run! V Wars: Blood and Fire features all new stories of the Vampire Wars by Kevin J. Anderson, Scott Sigler, Larry Corriea, Joe McKinney, Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro, Weston Ochse, James A. Moore, and Jonathan Maberry.
