The GFL tribute to John Madden

John Madden was a big influence on the Galactic Football League series

If you’re a 80s or 90s kid, and a football fan, then boom, you knew (and probably loved) John Madden.

The legendary coach, broadcaster and entrepreneur passed away on December 28, 2021 at the age of 85. He won a Super Bowl as the coach of the Oakland Raiders, then revolutionized sports broadcasting with his […]

Dear Lions — it’s all my fault

After watching my Detroit Lions flail about for some 40+ years, I have finally realized the reason they suck — that reason is me.

In particular, my absolutely inexcusable lack of statistical tracking of the Lions clothes I wear on game day.

How can the organization itself be blamed when I don’t know which shirts […]

The devil made us do it…

Since we’re getting out of the print biz and we’re sniffing packing tape for the next week, how about a warehouse-clearing sale?
• THE CHAMPION hardcover (only fifty remain)
• THE STARTER hardcover (at half-off)

In case you already bought THE GANGSTER hardcover, we cut the price of THE CHAMPION and THE STARTER so you don’t get double-dipped on shipping. You still have to pay the shipping cost when you buy, because we can’t reduce that — it gets wayyyy to complicated because foreign shipping is a nightmare, so we just cut the product cost and now all across the globe everyone benefits.

You Junkies are on (earth)crack

We screwed up, but you're there for us.

Well, this is a mind-bender.

Here is a video where I fess up about a big mistake on the hardcover edition of THE GANGSTER. At least, what I consider to be a big mistake. No, scratch that, it is a big mistake, no matter how you slice and dice it. We did a bad job. Period.

And yet, when I offer to give Junkies their money back for this error, were we flooded with refund requests? No. We didn’t get a single refund request. Instead, we sold fifteen more books in twenty-four hours. Wut? Are you Junkies all on the crack?

The outpouring of support after our shuck-up is overwhelming. We’re deeply humbled, and deeply honored.

Empty Set Entertainment strives to make cool things for cool people. I guess we didn’t understand just how cool you all are.

A and I are very lucky people to have a fan base like y’all. Tito, pass me a tissue…

GFL Novella #6 is available for Audible and Kindle

THE STONE WOLVES coverBuy it on Audible
Buy it on Kindle

This GFL story has been in the works for five years. Now, finally, we bring it to you. This is the final GFL novella. It falls directly between GFL Book V, THE CHAMPION, and GFL Book VI, THE GANGSTER.

I don’t normally say this about the novellas, but this is must-read material if you’re going to better enjoy the sprawling, face-punching epic series finale that is GFL Book VII and VIII.

The five members of an elite commando group nicknamed “the Stone Wolves” once raged against Creterakian rule. Now, four decades after their heyday, they each try to stay alive and eke out a living. But a friend from the past won’t let them move on, nor will their bitterest enemy. Hopscotch, RedWire, the Killer, Lulz and Recoil will soon wish their pasts could stay dead.

If you’re a podcasting fan from back in the day, the name J.C. Hutchins may sound familiar. He’s the bestselling author of the 7th SON series. We’re so stinkin’ proud to have a Hutchins book under the Empty Set banner.

THE STONE WOLVES is somewhat of a love letter to military vets who feel abandoned by the nation they served. It’s a pulse-pounding adventure with what I feel is the best finale I’ve ever created, but it also looks at some of the effects of PTSD on combat vets, and at the crushing guilt, loss of direction, and substance abuse that hits many.

Book review: THE POWER

THE POWER by Naomi Alderman review

I was blown away by this book. Alderman created a brilliant concept in how to shift the basics of physical power, and explored how that would change society. Throughout history, men have always been physically stronger than women, and have been able to physically impose their will. In many areas of the world, to this […]

I’m doing a Marie Curie horror story

Marie Curie, Two-Time WWE champ

Sheesh, with Facebook, Insta, Twitter, LinkedIn and more, is there any point of blogging anymore? I dunno, but here’s some news.

Blackstone Publishing will be doing an anthology of stories about a young Marie Curie, titled THE HITHERTO SECRET EXPERIMENTS OF MARIE CURIE. No big deal, just a passel of fictional tales about the two-time Nobel Prize winner (two-time science champeeen, whoooo!). The anthology will be edited by Henry Herz and Bryan Thomas Schmidt. From the posting on Herz’s site:

The anthology will comprise 18 dark stories of science fiction, fantasy, and/or horror set during Marie Curie’s high school years in Poland. What might she have done had she applied her genius in darker directions? The rockstar cast of award-winning and bestselling authors is: Scott Westerfeld, Jane Yolen, Mylo Carbia, Alethea Kontis, Jonathan Maberry, Scott Sigler, Stacia Deutsch, Seanan McGuire, Sarah Beth Durst, Lissa Price, Christine Taylor-Butler, Jo Whittemore, Dee Leone, Susanne Lambdin, Emily McCosh, Steve Pantazis, myself, and Bryan Thomas Schmidt & GP Charles.

The book/audiobook should be out in 2022.

I expect my story to be darker, gorier, and more just plain wrong than all the others combined. Looking at that list of authors, that will be one high bar of “wrong,” so I’ve got my work cut out for me.
