Washington, D.C. closes Stank Tour with 105 junkies

105 Junkies in Washington DCWe closed out the Sigler Stank II book tour in style with the Washington, D.C. installment. Over 105 Junkies came out and partied (it’s "over" 105 because one woman was pregnant, which counts as a half-Junkie.)

Thanks to all of you who came out for the eleven city swing. I had an amazing time meetin’ & greetin’ and drinkin’ with all of you. I got many emails and Tweets from people who couldn’t quite make it out, and those were appreciated as well — will catch you next time around.

Looking at December 2009 for the next installment, and I hope to kick it up to fifteen cities or possibly even more. I am now heading home to go the hell to sleep. More stories coming soon.

The funny thing is that I sometimes forget I am one ;)

I probably was one for a *long* time before Scott ever told me.

Thank you, George Hrab, for composing and performing the acoustic version of brainsbodyboth. Humorous yet poignant, and you gave me a theme song. I miss Ally <sigh>

  2. Twowire

    Thats because MP’s

Are the most awesome of the awesome! That my friend is hard to find. Your ranks are the elite, and candidates are very far and few between even for consideration of the rank of MP.

  3. Twowire

    You too?!

I noticed myself unconsciously rubbing the edges of the tables while I was sitting there!

How much tequila did you imbide?

Yeah, after the rave review TwoWire gave it,

I’m hoping y’all do decide to have a Vegas get together so I can meet everyone. He made it sound frakkin’ awesome!

Thank you, George Hrab, for composing and performing the acoustic version of brainsbodyboth. Humorous yet poignant, and you gave me a theme song. I miss Ally <sigh>

  6. sadock

Yeah, I guess they will be *much* rarer after the tour

Just seems like there are hardly any KISS badges right now. But if Scott kills 100 junkies that will make the badge much more common. There’s only 4 active MPs on the site. I’m guessing it will be quite a while before we promote another, but you never know what the FDO will do…..

Thank you, George Hrab, for composing and performing the acoustic version of brainsbodyboth. Humorous yet poignant, and you gave me a theme song. I miss Ally <sigh>

  7. sadock

Hey now, I’m a big fan of logic :(

It’s always fair. I totally get that everyone was helping promote Scott’s tour. That’s awesome. And I know Scott helps to promote things for other ‘casters. That’s how the podosphere works. It’s one of the beautiful things about it and one of the reasons I fell in love with the community. Even the biggest names in podcasting (ie Scott, Mur) will take the time to personally answer email or play a promo for an up and coming podcster.

It just didn’t seem to make sense in this instance unless Scott was using the names as a draw for himself. I suppose he could have been using them as a "hey, I’m so cool, these other cool people are coming, you should come too!" but I really kind of doubt it. That doesn’t seem like his style to me. He’s never been shy about admitting that he’s shameless when it comes to self promotion, so using friends to get more bodies in the door seems like something he might do. I could be absolutely wrong though. Who knows?

Thank you, George Hrab, for composing and performing the acoustic version of brainsbodyboth. Humorous yet poignant, and you gave me a theme song. I miss Ally <sigh>

    The cowhide tables!!

The FDO *needs* to see those cowhide tables.  They reminded me of Ancestor!  I couldn’t stop petting the table :D

    Tsolo we might think about

reserving a room at the Armadillo.  They have rooms for that kind of stuff!

  12. tsolo888

We also need to come up with a place

That has a party room for after the signing, unfortunatly the bar was too small and my group didn’t realize we were going to Two rows which was too crowded last year.  I’m going to try and find a good venue for the next visit so we have enough room and good atmoshphere.  …Tsolo888 <AKA Cpt. While I’m sure they all had a great time in DC….

I think we really did the Junkie Community thing down in Houston.  Next time the FDO comes out, we’ll have to see if he can get together at the Armadillo with us before the signing…  No signing of anything, no pictures, no pressure.  Just some junkies and the fdo admiring the big-ass snake and cow hide tabletops…

  18. Nuchtchas

    Seriously?

Because promotion helps the cause?  Dude you have no idea how much promotion was going on.  Yeah you had those other podcasters there, and it was great, but they all told their listeners just as I spread the word to the podcasts I work with.  Granted it was cool to see my friends and peeps I knew only online when it came down to it they were there for Scott not me.  Just as the other bigger podcast listeners were there for Scott not the others.  If that were the case, that they were there for the other podcasters it would have been more prudent to go to Balticon where most of those people go every year.

Oh wait, logic, sorry, shouldn’t have pulled that out, unfair fight :)

I say all this as someone who mostly got into Sigler because Mur Lafferty and the other podcasts at the time would not shut up about Earth Core, so I finally broke down and took a listen.  I drove from Canada to NY for (work, family stuff &) the Stank Tour, then drove down that night to DC.  Not because the other podcasters would be there (at the time I only knew Mur was going to be there) but because I missed last year’s Stank Tour and… because I could.  Wouldn’t you do the same?

  19. Gmork

    To tell the truth…

while I am happy to have had the chance to meet the FDO & the RDQ & the hubbie of the RDQ, not to mention to be killed in an upcoming story, I have to admit that DC didn’t come close to the experience in Houston.

No offense to DC but I just had a blast flying out to Houston and hanging out with the best bunch of genuinely awesome Junkies.  Dinner before, the intimate reading, tequila shots at the the seedy bar and the yummy eats at the non-seedy bar…the whole experience was a blast!

  20. SynapticJam

MP is by far the more prestigious…

What I think would be great is if…….

all the Texas people wrote a story in which Sigler gets killed 143 times each time in a different way.  Sigler gets killed then comes back then gets killed again.  It would be like in Halloween where the guy gets shot, falls off of a two story balcony then is gone in the next scene.  Sigler just keeps coming back!!!!!!  Mwaaahaaaaaaa!!!!!

"Well. I’ll tell you what. You gonna kick it with me. Or I’m gonna kick you out. What you think of that?" Sister Mary Clarence

  26. sadock

Yes, that would be cool if Scott did that

and he typically takes care of his junkies. He knows it’s a symbiotic relationship. Now if fucktards would just stop hurling monkeys at his nads it would all be good.

Thank you, George Hrab, for composing and performing the acoustic version of brainsbodyboth. Humorous yet poignant, and you gave me a theme song. I miss Ally <sigh>

  27. sadock

I would have agreed with you except for one small thing

If Scott didn’t think it would boost his numbers, why did he pimp their presence ahead of time? Hmmmm? Answer me that, Ms. smarty pants.

Thank you, George Hrab, for composing and performing the acoustic version of brainsbodyboth. Humorous yet poignant, and you gave me a theme song. I miss Ally <sigh>

  28. sadock

Jam, Scott said he’d kill them, not sodomize ‘em!

You joining us down here in the gutter for a while?

I too am ecstatic that Gmork will have her chance to die. Now which badge will she choose? Same thing for the RDQ if she was there. KISS and MP are both hard to come by.

  29. sadock

Oh, leave it alone. FDO’s contest, his call

and you know he’s not going to take you seriously if you don’t even bother to log in/register. Anytime that (not verified) pops up, odds are you’re going to get blown off. Not like it takes that long……

  30. MuchAdo

    Yea, Yea, Yea!!!!!!

Now with regards to Texas – Houston actually won one of the original events, Dallas did not win one of the original events!!!!  Therefore when the Dallas event was added as one of the extra out of Sigler’s pocket, it did take away from the Houston event.  Those are just the "Facts Ma’am".  None-the-less, DC won and that is that.

"Well. I’ll tell you what. You gonna kick it with me. Or I’m gonna kick you out. What you think of that?" Sister Mary Clarence

    Recount! Recount!

Not really, DC’s gonna get wiped of the face of the Earth!! Muuuwwaahah!!!

    "Get off… the nuclear… warhead."

  32. SynapticJam

    Alright children… that’s enough!

Bottom line.  DC won…  DC gets screwed up the poop shoot.  It’s a warm body thing.  Scott even said at one of the stops that you could go out into the street and bring in complete strangers…  I don’t give a rat’s rumproast why they were there.

As for Dallas…   You’re numbers were good.  Houston’s numbers were good.  Put them together, and we would have given DC a real run for it’s money…  But all y’all Texas Junkies voted for two different cities…  Two stops… separate numbers for each and no amount of whining is gonna make a damn bit of difference.  I know all about the whining… I was there.

So what to do now?  Maybe next time, you should pick a city in Texas to vote for…  Make a big old party out of it.  I don’t really care.  There.  I’ve had my say…  I’m just glad Gmork gets her chance to die…

    Bah!

No one showed up to see Mur Lafferty or Tee Morris or Christianna Ellis or Phil Rossi or any one else, everyone showed up for the FDO.  Mur, Tee, Phil, Christiana, Earl Newton, everyone was there for Scott, they are fans just as much as anyone else :)

It was a podcasting who’s who but there was quite a few podcasters at the other stops (like in NYC, loads there too)

Don’t worry Dallas, you have a chance to try again next year :P

I am sure I will be one of those being left out as I have the hardest name to work into a story (of cource Chooch isn’t normal either) and I don’t mind being left out either, same thing I said with the Nocturnal thing :)

  38. Twowire

    Your right MuchAdo!

Houston & Dallas were all HARDCORE FDO love’n Junkies making a showing for the one and only FDO himself! 143 total awesome Junkies In attendance for Scott only! We Rock Hard and Solid!!

  39. MuchAdo

Yea but we can say that the Texas group……..

came out just on the strength of Sigler.  We didn’t need any other big names there.  We still rock!!!!!  Not that the DC group didn’t rock it’s just that we still rock!!!!!!!!

Man, with FDO, RDQ , Gmork  and all the Podcaster greatness in one room and cute little SB, who could/would turn down the chance to come out and play? Not I, thats for sure!

    "Get off… the nuclear… warhead."

  42. sadock

Yeah, and San Fran was one of those 5. Cheap Bastards

FDO is the bomb though!!! I wouldn’t have gotten to meet him if it was only the Crown stops.

  43. sadock

I kinda figured DC was going to win when I heard…..

about the extra names that would be attending. Pretty sure Mur and another huge name were there with the FDO, weren’t they? So how’s Scott going to decide the 5 that get left out of the story? He said he could only kill up to 100.

    There was this guy dressed

There was this guy dressed in a suit who had come to the signing thinking it was the Jimmy Carter signing (which was planned for the following week) so he thought he would try out the guy scheduled for that day.  He came and sat down with us and asked us a little bit about the book.  We explained it was a horror novel and the second in the series, that is had a lot of gore and was VERY VERY good.

He stayed for a little while but was listening to our conversations, he was confused about all the podcast talk (there were a lot of podcasters there) and was asking about that.  We told him and he seemed a little confused but stayed, then he opened the book and was reading the inside pages and looks up, "What does FDO mean?"  he says.

"Future Dark Overlord," We all reply.

He is a little confused again and we explain it is a thing with the junkies, then we have to explain junkies.  At some point he did let us know he worked for the government (not shocking based on his appearance)

Then he asks what we are talking about when we are talking about getting over 78 people there to be killed.  We explain the contest, how the city with the most people coming will get destroyed in a short story and all who attended will be killed by name in the story.

It was about that time he decided to get up and leave.  We urged him to at least buy the paperback Infected and give it a read, that he would be glad he did.

I am guessing the whole "lets destory" DC thing is what tipped him over the edge, working for the government and all :)

  47. Damn_Dirty_Junkie

He should cross the border on the next tour

He can come to Toronto next time around. It’s a quick flight from Detroit or New York or Buffalo or Cleveland. He’s bound to wind up in one of those places at some point.

    Fun time in DC

    Fantastic time in DC.

Great questions from the audience and great answers from the FDO.  Very interesting stuff.  I wish I could have stayed for the pub crawl afterward but I had to get back to the kiddies. Can’t wait for the next visit. Thanks again!

    Had a blast

I am just trying to get the pictures up for both DC and NYC. Sad to see my home town of NY didn’t make the top but hey DC did and I was there for it! :)

I highly recommend to anyone going to more then one signing, it was one of the funnest times ever. I drove from Canada, to NY to DC, dedication? or just fate trying to give me more Sigler? you decide :)

I loved hanging with everyone that came, I can’t remember all your names but I had a great time, well met. Shame we scared that one guy away in DC though LOL

You so rock Gmork! Attention to Orders!

For those who don’t know… Gmork flew her own damn self down to Houston and attended the signing there, only to fly back and attend the signing in DC the next week.

Her dedication and effors reflect great credit upon herself and the overwhelming powers of the FDO.

I really should have gone out there for that stop.  I really wanted too, but flights back would have been impossible.  It makes me sad.

    Amazon

I sympathise with you Flashman, I preordered on Amazon ages ago and my copy seems to be in limbo. No one will tell me whats going on. I started to cry. Then I realised it’s amazons fault. Then I realised it’s the worlds fault and that someone in the UK distribution chain must be made to pay. Pay hard. I am thinking of a limb for each day the book fails to turn up.

Keep fobbing me off. They cannot seem to explain the delay when it should have been available on the 8th Jan.

Although I ordered two hardcopies of Contagious from US for the FDO push for NYTBS list I want to buy UK editions for the FDO to get a presence here in the UK and to use it as a staging post for the conquest of Europe.

PS. that’s a MAJOR junkie turnout  well done DC!

Get some rest and then get you ASS over to this side of the pond.  If you are going to take over the world you must start in the "Old World".  I’m pretty sure we junkies can put you and the Queen up every night somewhere throughout Europe.

(And hell I can’t even get a response about when your book is actually coming out in the UK as your publisher won’t answer and keeps telling the book companies something different all the time! So don’t even think of telling me to tell you UK publisher to get you over here…)

Oh yeah…Here we do real pub crawls!

Congrats though on the major turn-outs.

  59. Gmork

    Beyond awesome!

The DC signing was an incredible site to see….standing room only!

The line of Junkies waiting for signatures snaked aroud the upstairs of this 2 floor Borders Books & Music store and the FDO stayed and signed everyone’s goodies and closed the store.  Got a chance to meet some awesome people and have a pint of beer named  "raison d’être" (or reason for existence) at the Doghead Fish Brewery.

    Good times! Thanks again FDO!!

  60. Blix

Can I get a Hell Yeah!

Thanks ya bald headed bastard! I had an awesome time hanging with the FDO. Not to mention he attracted some other hanger ons like… Phil "Mutha Fucking" Rossi, Mur "Hot Momma" Lafferty, and Tee "The Pod Master" Morris (just to name a few). I drove all the way from Aberdeen MD to make the DC appearance but it was well worth it. And I went to the bar and hung till the end no less (got home at 2:30 A.M.). AND, got up for work at 6 AM. Fuckin A right, cause that’s how I roll!

Thanks Scott, you da man. Well worth a night without sleep. When your tanks crush my wothless flesh under their treads I will finnaly get some fucking rest…

Crown didn’t pay for all 8 cities! OMG our FDO is so dedicated!

Scott: You loveable goofball. You mean that the costs for 3 of the cities came out of your own pocket. SHIT!!! I love your dedication, but it don’t seem quite fair. I know you life in SF, but the other 2 had plane fares and hotel attached. I hope Crown picked up the whole tab, or maybe they will do so now after you brought in 105.5 Junkies!

Love Watching You & Your Career Blossom :)

     Hey Scott:

I am thrilled at the ever-increasing level of turnout for you. I really hope this has an effect on keeping you as a full-time writer longer. As always, if there is something else I can do personally to inspire the powers that be to fork over more money, let me know. Otherwise, I’ll restrain my temptation to track down your agent, or just write to Crown directly. Unless you give me the word. I’m not writing to either of those people.

We’re still praying for the total recovery of the EQ(tm). After several days of rest, please let us know how your sweet wife is doing. I enjoyed meeting her in SF.
