Interesting this ID vs. evo
Interesting this ID vs. evo thing. But here’s one for y’all: I was reading Cantor’s book “In the Wake of The Plagueâ€Â, which I picked up in an airport, and is on the NY Times bestseller list. It’s about the societal effects of the catastrophic bubonic plague of the 14th century. Cantor, a serious medieval historian references some colleagues who seriously published the idea that some species’ DNA contains coding for weird capabilities, such as the ability for an organism to survive extreme radiation, cold, and/or heat. Why? Well these folks have put forth the idea that DNA (at least some of it) comes from space, and maybe that’s where the bubonic plague come from too. That’s right, outer-friggin-space. Why else would some bacterial and viral DNA be coded for survival under extreme conditions that could not possibly exist on Earth? Why would so many species have bizzare and seemingly useless parts, organs and appendages that don’t seem to have any evolutionary precedent on this planet, and that we can’t find a consistent record for? They were serious, but the idea of God or Aliens or whatever spreading DNA-encoded “viral space-dust†does seem like fodder for another Sigler effort, no? Thanks Scott for Ancestor, and Earthcore, delivered over this liberating medium. T-Bob
