The Godfather Returns and The Godfather's Revenge are both amazing books, and the author acutally details in the afterword the extent to which Puzo's estate went to make sure the author they selected would live up to Puzo standards....There were some authors that wanted to drastically change the storyline....add silly, contemporary, ripped-from-the-headlines stuff that had no place in the GF universe...("let's make Michael a Transgendered promise keeper!")....the irony of ALL of this is that The Godfather is actually one of the few books that it's actually LESS reputable to have read than to have seen the movie! Coppola's masterpiece is a standard go to for cinema buffs but the novel per se is quite trashy....when asked about all the gratuitous sex Puzo replied "hey, i needed to make money on this book and i knew if i added a lot of sex and violence it would sell"....so who knows, DOL, maybe some auteur will get a hold of your novel and it will be so well done in comparison it won't even matter....
