I hate seeing things like Robert Ludlum {tm} on a book cover and then "written by Joe Nobody" almost hidden at the bottom in tiny tiny print.  It rips off the reader and is an insult to both them and the original author. 

I picked up a Tom Clancy's Op Center book written by two people I'd never heard of before.  It suuuuuuuked.  Bigtime.  I cheapened his brand, and killed some of my respect for him. 

Comic books are a different animal.  They are the work of a team, and we expect them to be written by different people.  I don't think you can compare them to novels, which are part of the author's soul.  With a novel I want to hear the author's voice in my head, not the voice of someone who is pretending to be him.
