I've got to agree with

I've got to agree with wearing hack as a badge of honor. I feel the same way about "Literary" folks as I feel about people who are really in to wine. Who the hell are you to tell me I don't like the wine I'm drinking because it's not "Sophisticated." Scott's "Hack Writing" kicks the ass of plenty of "Literature." Secondly, if you are going to use that broad of a concept to define what's "Original" or not you are going to be knocking out about every book with the exception of "The Tale of Genji." Seriously, once you start firing off the vague shotgun you might as well say that Earthcore is a "Ibn Fadlan" retelling because it has a group of people and monsters, or Ancestor is just a new telling of "Jaberwocky" because there's a creature in both of them. As for one dimensional characters, even if I were to concede that point (which I won't) Scott is writing books about STUFF happening. He's not writing novels about a woman and a man sitting in a train station and exchanging philosophy. This isn't Sense and Sensibility, or Catcher in the Rye. Plot driven novels are just that, PLOT driven. He puts in all of the character motivation and information that is necessary to move the story forward, and leaves out the rest, which gives the books their tight pacing. So I guess I'm just another Hack lovin Junky with poor taste in literature, Scott. I'll have to stop drinking tea with my pinky out. -Will from Smart Bomb Radio
