Dear Kink; Glad to know I'm
Dear Kink; Glad to know I'm a "hack writer." Can't argue with you there. I'm barely literate, to tell the truth. However, let's discuss "far from original." While most of the horror world seems focused on vampires, vampire slayers, countless "Buffy" rip-offs, werewolves, more vampires, ghosts, goblins, devils and other supernatural devices, anyone-can-create-them time-travel quandries, or even trite garbage like, say, military units shooting down UFOs, I'm writing "hacks" like: INFECTION: Let's see, alien organisms that tap into the human bloodstream to gather nutrients for growth (not feeding ON the blood, but taking stuff FROM the blood, just as we do) - using the human nervous system as a communication network, sending signals back-and-forth like an intranet - tapping into the cochlear nucleus so they can create a real "voice in your head - those same creatures flooding the body with neurotransmitters to facilitate their communication, which causes known side-effects of paranoia and violence. ANCESTOR: Analyzing the genome common to all mammals to create a universal organ-donor herd animal. Again, did I miss that movie when I was a lad? Yes, it becomes a "monster movie" after that, but if you can tell me how that core "monster creation" plot is unoriginal, I'll buy you a beer. Oh, and if you can find any books/shows/movies that feature bovine monster hosts, I'd love to see that as well. Did I miss that movie in my youth? Kindly tell me from whence I ripped of that plot, as mine is "unoriginal." EARTHCORE: Granted, "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is the first to approach the "Lost Civilization" model. However, in EarthCore, being underground is little more than a setting: Sentient race lands on Earth, limited genetic pool causes degeneration of intellect and cognitive ability until the aliens are "cavemen" - aliens are cared for by distributed-netowrk AI that evolves to counter any threat, similar to a biological immune system - a nuke designed to penetrate the Earth's crust in order to kill everything with superheated gas and magma - the plot based on a metal compound that is idea for an interstellar warship. THE ROOKIE: Do I even need to bother with this one? Aliens that are really "alien," not some human with crazy growths on their nose. I'm guessing you're a Trekkie, no? Using an existing game as a cultural modification program to try and reduce racial tensions - a future universe that offers something other than main-character-defeats-evil-empire plotlines - combing professional sports with space opera and gangster-style settings. If I DID miss that one, I'd love to watch it, because it sounds like one fucking entertaining story to me.
