It's all a matter of Perspective ...and Detroit Loins

It is all about perspective.

• First Person Perspective - Through the eyes of the Hero (Call of Duty, Halo)
• Third Person Perspective - Through the eyes of an observer. You are watching and can see the hero blowing up the baddies. (Gears of War)

It can get confusing because in both perspectives you are still controlling the same person. The difference is you are simply viewing them from a different perspective.

You've got the same kind of perspective stuff in writing so you would know all about that stuff anyway.
