Ah. You didn't mention the young'uns before.

Rearing spawn makes all the difference in the world. They change your entire reality bubble. While I have yet to meet a parent who regrets having children (which is as it should be), they do require a incredible devotion of both your finances & time.

Neither my ex-wife nor I had any interest in having kids. We are both buy it as we want it types though. That made the gift giving all that much more challenging. It became a total game of loving deceit. One of the best parts of our marriage. We're still best friends. Hell, I gave her away at her second wedding.

Have I mentioned that I'm just a bit uncoventional?
