The ship's exterior, Sgt Major Sans (sp?), and The Starter
Scott, one thing I really liked in this installment was how, while you were describing the ship's exterior, you were also describing the new captain's reaction to seeing the exterior. See, for me this is important: I saw some picture of the Crypt once before, but I didn't really get it becuase, yeah sure it looked all kinds of messed up but so what? I mean, for all I knew, it could've been that all the ships in the fleet looked like that. Now that I have the new captain's impressions of it to go off of, I understand that, that ship is uniquely twisted in its story setting, and I can appreciate it more.
Sgt Major Sans (sp): Weird thing is, I really like this guy. I mean, in the normal, everyday, real world, a guy that follows every single rule to the Nth degree is not my kind of people. But if I were unlucky enough to find myself in the military (my parents are hippies, I'm not really military material), I would be really glad to hang out with Gunney Sans: a guy whose only fault might be that he follows the rules too well. See, the cool thing about him is you always know where you stand.
The Starter: I love The Rookie. I'm part of that chunk of your fanbase that's not really into football, but that really like The Rookie because of the story itself, and because that story happens to take place in a sci-fi setting.
It never really seemed fair that Quentin only had to wait a couple weeks to start Tier one ball while we junkies had to wait a couple years. Still, it's good to know that, that wait is almost over. And the best part is, living in the USA as I do, I don't really have to "mark my calendar" or anything. I'll know when the NFL season starts because that's when everybody everywhere will talk crazy-crazy football talk. ;-)
