...that the education system isn't always complete.  Growing up in Hawaii, the state history was actually emphasized more than US history.  Japanese internment camps was an integral part of Hawaiian history and because of the attack on Pearl Harbor, it hit closer to home.  Japanese-Americans who were well established, whose ancestors initially immigrated to become plantation workers, were immediately distrusted. Dark times that are still not easily forgetten in the islands.  Now if we could just get the US to recognize the overthrown of the Hawaiian monarchy.
