German POW camps in Arkansas
One of the more interesting tidbits of info I came upon recently is that during WWII German POWs who were captured (mostly during the African campaign) were held prisoner in the continental United States. One such camp, fort Chafee in Arkansas, housed over 3000 German POWs. Now what I find interesting about this fact is that we were actually at declared war with Germany and yet we kept their prisoners on our own soil. Nowadays we won't even let our country's enemies on our soil to justly try them in a court of law. Can you imagine having 3000+ alquaeda soldiers in a camp based in Arkansas? People would go nuts. Another example of why our grand parents were a much better generation than we are.
