Come listen to me babble for 20 minutes from INFECTED, then answer your questions, then jump into a rant about the evil of the Shriners and why the Amish scare the living crap out of me.

Book tour, sales, new podcast episodes

Junkie,

Wow, what a couple of weeks! This will be a long newsletter, so I'll give you the important stuff up top and get to my usual long-winded blabbering at the end. Check out what's waiting for you at http://www.scottsigler.com.

PODCAST EPISODE: NOCTURNAL #23
Twenty-seven minutes of pure story goodness! Aggie James finally makes it out of the lair of Marie's Children, but what is waiting for him on the outside? Sean Robertson is back to his underhanded tricks -- does he have Bryan Clauser's number? You can't keep Pookie Chang out of an episode, and Chief Amy Zoe finds out she's got to deal with a huge mess after the Russians tried to take out Frank Lanza.

PODCAST EPISODE: INFECTED Chapters 11-15:
Perry's body is changing, faster than he can keep track, and in ways that he can't see. Margaret and Amos identify parasitic structures growing deep in Martin Brewbaker's body -- structures that indicate Perry's current symptoms are a portent to disaster.

HUTCHINSSS UNLEASHES NEW FAN-FICTION CONCEPT:
Now you may have stopped listening to my arch-nemesis because his series 7th SON is over (and you've been trying ever since to block out that voice ...), but he's back! He's opening up the 7th SON universe to a new fan-fiction concept. I'm ashamed to admit that this concept is damn good. Maybe the only good thing Hutchins has done in his rotten life, but if you've got a simple video camera and you like to act all scared and shit, this would be a good time.

Junkie BarbaraJ posted the information in the forums at scottsigler.com (which makes her a rotten fucking traitor):
http://www.scottsigler.com/node/1342

DEADLY LITTLE BASTARDS:
My latest blog post at AMCTV. Will someone smack these damn psychotic devil-children that run rampant through the movies?
http://blogs.amctv.com/monsterfest/scott-sigler/

NY TIMES BESTSELLER LIST:
Well my friends, it seems the conspiracy of the big publishers is back in full force. We did NOT make the list, which is a pretty big disappointment. However, the NY Times "expanded" list ranks 35 hardcover books, and we OUTSOLD the last two on that list. We were WAY behind #33, but sold more than #34 and #35. Now the Times list is not based only on sales and no one, even my publisher, knows exactly what they track (regional sales count, bestseller lists from big cities like San Francisco and L.A. factor in, maybe reviews, we're not sure). But know this, Junkies, you did your job! You served Siglerism! We moved enough books to make the list. We should have made the list. I think we got fucked because we're too new -- the other two names at the end of the expanded list are very well-known and established authors. I'm some piss-ant upstart that's trying to kill the current publishing industry dead. We are not finished ... not by a long shot. The Times is watching us, and if sales stay strong through Week Two we might sneak on there.

BOOK TOUR:
Holy shit, that was more fun than a bag of freshly decapitated monkeys. We averaged about 50 people per store, sold 40 books per store. From what Crown tells me, those are out-of-the-park home run numbers, and for a first-time author, they are just phenomenal. Siglerism in full effect, y'all. This happened because the Junkies stepped up and represented, coming out to see their Future Dark Overlord™ in action. One insane fan flew from Minnesota to Houston for the event. Just sick! Many hands were shook, many books were signed, many beers were consumed. Everyone who came out, it was a true highlight of my life to meet y'all. I will be adding more cities to the 2008 tour to promote CONTAGIOUS, so hopefully I will see even more of you then.

Siglernomics 101 + new NOCTURNAL and INFECTED

Junkie,

Here's the latest from the Church of Siglerism:

BOOK SALES = MORE FREE PODCASTS (Siglernomics 101):
INFECTED is in stores now, and we've got some preliminary numbers in: they are strong, but not as strong as they should be considering the size of Siglerism. If you like these free podcasts, grab yourself a copy or buy one as a gift. The more books I sell, the more I can lock in doing this full-time, and the more stories you're going to get. Do the math -- you buy one Sigler book per year, get you over 70 free fiction episodes in that same year. Seems like a damn good deal to me, so get going!

INFECTED Chapters 11-14 Posted:
Perry Dawsey begins to feel the effects of the infection, although it's still too early to tell if he will wind up like Martin Brewbaker. Margaret Montoya contines to examine Brewbaker's rapidly decomposing corpse, and finds key clues that could finally shed some light on a disease that drives people to murder.

NOCTURNAL Episode #22 Posted:
Rex is back in the mix, and starting to understand his role in the bigger picture. Or does he truly understand his role, or what Sly think his role should be? Firstborn finishes up with the Russians, and wonders why things were so easy. And ... the return of Tard!

NYC and Houston, prepare yourselves!
NYC on Wednesday, April 9, and Houston on Friday, April 11. Get the details on the right-hand side of the page at http://www.scottsigler.com

Updates & it's time for Amazon reviews!

Junkie,

We're off to a rousing start with bookstore sales, and we hit #2 in horror on Amazon.com (behind some dude named "Stephen King," or something like that). This is a solid showing, considering that so many of you kicked in the doors of your local bookstores, grabbed the latte-sipping clerks by the collars, and shouted into their shocked little faces "give me Sigler, or give me death!" Considering that most bookstore clerks are not certified death-dealers, this strategy worked well in most cases. Junkie Bob in Tallahasee, real sorry the clerk popped a cap, we'll pour some on the curb for ya ...

And now, FDO™ News Bits.

AMAZON.COM:
Two words: "Sick 'em." Now is the time to go and leave your Amazon.com review. Reviews help sell books, so you're doing your part for the glory of the Future Dark Overlord™. The douchebag reviews are starting to trickle in as well, so if you click "No" on "Was this review helpful to you" that drags them down. If you think the reviews are totally out of line, click "Report This." Enough "reports" and the review gets pulled.

SALES RESULTS:
I will have more information on total sales on Wednesday, April 9. The publisher has told me they will have some info, but not a definitive count. We might know if we chart NY Times, we might not.

BOOK TOUR UPDATE:
LA was awesome! We had about 50 people, the bookstore sold 42 copies of INFECTED, everyone was happy. We all went to the world-famous Rainbow Room afterwards and rocked out to 80s hair metal.

SEATTLE: April 4 at Barnes & Noble downtown
SAN FRANCISCO: April 5 at Borderlands Books
NEW YORK: April 9 at Borders Columbus Circle
HOUSTON: April 11 at Murder by the Book.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT:
Yes, an attempt was made on the life of Pope Siglericus XXX on March 31, the day before INFECTED came out. Agents of actress Julie Andrews poisoned some almond rocha candies that showed up as "a gift" at a pre-launch party. I spent all of April 1 in the Future Dark Bathroom, hurling more frequently than a drying-out heroin addict.

But FDO, you say, Julie Andrews? Yes, that Nancy-pants do-gooder that stared in THE SOUND OF MUSIC. That Julie Andrews. Seems her book came out on April 1, and since she stands for all that is good and pure and kind she wants to block all that is evil and corrupted and mean ... namely, me. She is the Luke Skywalker to my Darth Vader, and I will not stand for it! Don't believe me? Take a look at how she strategically positioned her book to surround mine:

And her weapon of choice:
http://flickr.com/photos/scottsigler/2382098620/

We are plotting our revenge against this shining light of goodness. We will not allow such a good-doer to exist on this realm. Prepare yourself, Julie Andrews, you should have killed me when you had the chance ...

FREE PDF Giveaway of INFECTED: Limited time!

Junkie,

Crown Publishing is letting me give away the PDF of INFECTED from March 27 through March 31, leading up to the hardcover in-store release on April 1. So download it! Feel free to email the link to anyone you know.

http://www.randomhouse.com/crown/infected/downloads/infected_novel.pdf

Please do not email the PDF, email the LINK. This is so I can prove to Crown the value in giving away content, and if your friends click on the link, that counts on their server stats - emailing the PDF doesn't count on the stats.

ALSO: YOU CAN NOW REVIEW INFECTED AT BN.COM:

You can not review at Amazon.com until April 1, but if you have a minute, leave a review at BN.com.

NOCTURNAL #20, INFECTED #4 posted

Junkie;

Only seven days until INFECTED hits the bookstore shelves! My recommendation? Buy a copy, then strip down to your skivvies, hold the hardcover of INFECTED above your head and run around the bookstore, screaming "You're all going to die unless you buy this book! It's your only chance!" Bonus points if you make a hat out of baloon animals and wear that while running and screaming. Get pics!

New at http://www.scottsigler.com:

NOCTURNAL#20:
Bryan and Pookie take refuge with Robin. They have gone against the wishes of Chief Amy Zou, and they know that consequences can't be far behind. And what was that souvenier that Bryan took out of Erickson's house at the end of Episode 19?

INFECTED Chapter 10:
CDC investigator Margaret Montoya gets down to business on the burned, shot, self-mutilated and infected corpse of Martin Brewbaker.

MORE SIGLER FUN AT AMCTV.COM:
This time I take a hard look at what online user reviews can do to your purchasing and viewing decisions, using Stephen King's endorsement of the review-abused THE RUINS by Scott Smith as an example. Go comment and give me your 10-cents worth:

NOCTURNAL #19, INFECTED #3 posted

HELP PROMOTE INFECTED:
Go to www.infectednovel.com and click on "downloads" to order free promotional postcards and stickers, sent right to you by Crown Publishing.

PREPARE TO BLOG, JUNKIE:
Are you a blogger? Take your camera to the bookstore when you buy your copy of INFECTED, take a pic of you with the book, and blot that shiz!

NEW AMC TV BLOG:
I use science to prove that movies reach sexual maturity between 24 and 30 years old, then they start breeding new flicks. Check out my analysis of DOOMSDAY to see the inarguable proof. http://blogs.amctv.com/monsterfest/scott-sigler/
