Click here to download GuestGoods: Seth Harwood Awwww snap! Check out our brand-new show, GuestGoods. We're gearing up complete website revision, which we plan to launch before 2012 hits, and we thought it was high time to dish out some of the changes a little early (You see that freshy fresh icon over there? A little taste of things to come. Oh, yeah, you know you can't wait.) What is GuestGoods? Questions are simple: 1) What's your hot new thing? 2) What's in it for the Junkies? 3) Where can they find out more? In this episode: We launch the three-question assualt at fellow Junkie Seth Harwood. Seth's been quite busy over at sethharwood.com, dropping a brand-new podcast called IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, which he'll tell you all about. He's also running a Kickstarter campaign to produce killer crime-fiction eBooks. Seth is a hard-workin' mo-fo, so give him a couple of minutes and -- of course -- let us know what you think about this show and this format! |
Click here to download GuestGoods: Len Peralta Back with another GuestGoods, this time with artist, friend of DØM, and all-around good guy Len Peralta. Don't know his work? Oh, you will shortly. And you can even grab some for yourself, just like us! (Check us out as Villian vs. Hero below!) What is GuestGoods? Questions are simple: 1) What's your hot new thing? 2) What's in it for the Junkies? 3) Where can they find out more? From Len himself: Thanks to Scott and A for giving me this platform to hawk my wares and basically pimp myself out. I never miss a chance. A colleague of mine recently compared my approach to art to a “gunslinger”. I found that funny, beca use I have never heard that term in relation to a cartoonist before. As we chatted more, I got a better understanding of what he meant. He meant to say that I just run out there and take chances with my art. I don’t know if a project will end up working o r not, but in the end, it’s worth taking a chance rather than not doing the project at all. This is especially true of my current art project “50 vs. 50”. As with Monster By Mail (my other original art project), I created it with a specific goal in mind – to get myself to San Diego Comic Con. (Monster By Mail was created to hel[img_assist|nid=5917|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=195|height=250]p pay for heath care costs for the birth of my baby daughter). In the end, I drew 50 villains and 50 heroes and was able to make it to San Diego for the festivities. Now, in time for Halloween, I’m drawing 50 zombies and 50 apocalyptic survivors for people. There isn’t any specific goal in mind this time around. It’s really just a fun way to celebrate one of my favorite holidays. Folks can order a digital version of the art, or for a few extra dollars, they can get a signed print or even the original pen and ink artwork of their zombie or survivor. All in all, it adheres to my tenant of making commissionable original art for people affordable and cool. You can check out my heroes and villains gallery at http://www.the50vs50.com. And you can be the first zombie that shambles into the Zombie Gallery. (As of this writing, I haven’t drawn any zombies for this project, so the f ield is open.) You can also check out all my other projects (like my wildly popular nerdy trading card project “Geek A Week” and my avatar creation site Flipface) at my main website http://www.lenperalta.com. |

Guest Goods: The FLAMES anthology
Author John Mierau is a rat bastard. While I was on tour, he broke into my office and left me a little recording about his new project, the FLAMES Anthology.
Now don't get me wrong -- John is one of the hardest-working guys in fiction. He's willing to do whatever it takes to bring attention to his work, including eating a super-freakin' hot pepper so John Scalzi would tweet about him. There is a video on that link. You should watch it.
While I respect John's work ethic, that doesn't change the fact that he is one creepy m-effer. Seriously, when the Future Dark Øverlord has to use the legal system to keep someone away? That's a Creepy McCreeperson. Want proof? Just look at that picture of him. I rest my case.
However, just because he's creepy doesn't mean I won't give credit where credit is due: the FLAMES Anthology sounds cool as hell. John has lined up some of the best names in the biz, including Jake Bible, Nathan Lowell, Brand Gamblin, Patrick McClean and more. Bible and McClean wrote CRYPT stories for us, and Lowell is working on the back-story of Gredok the Splithead as we speak, so these names just might be familiar to ya. Mierau has created a wicked plot concept, generating a shared world that spans both time and space.
So, I'm running his recording. I'm also using it as evidence to increase the distance that Creepy McCreeperson has to stay away from me, as required by law.

GuestGoods: Jeff Carlson's FROZEN SKY
My buddy Jeff Carlson has a new book out, THE FROZEN SKY. It's published by 47North, which is Amazon's science fiction imprint. Hence, I'll be watching his success closely, because Amazon basically dictates the eBook marketplace (hear that, Carlson? I'm watching you ... ).
He thought the Junkies would be interested in his old-school scifi/horror tale, so he fired up a GuestGoods interview to tell you all about it.
Jeff put the book out originally as a short story, and it blew the eff up, selling many thousands of copies. 47North then hooked a brotha up with a deal for a novel-length version. Listen in if you like.
The links to the book are Amazon affiliate links, 'cause I'm sneaky like that). This episode sponsored sponsored by Petco coupon codes, save moolah on toys, collars & leashes, food, medicine and more for your family friend.
