[img_assist|nid=3677|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=100] I know y'all know all about Seth Harwood. (If you're smart, you're following him on Twitter, just like you follow the FDO™.)  Seth is a kick-ass crime writer, and is cooking up his own pre-order scheme for YOUNG JUNIUS.  That's right, yer boy is taking a page out of the Dark Øverlord playbook, and a tricked-out hardcover of YOUNG JUNIUS will be available for pre-order starting May 5th.  Signed, numbered, personalized if you ask real nice, these books will ship in October.

Since Scott & Seth are teaching Author Boot Camp together this week, I asked them to get all shined up and pretty, and drag themselves in front of a camera to tell us all about it.  You want more details? Check out Seth's YOUNG JUNIUS page, and then get ready for Cinco de Junius!

Just one week left in the contest to create logos for the Tier One teams in THE STARTER. Each winning entry is worth $50 (USD) and there's no limit to how many logos you can submit, or how many times any one artist can win, but you have to enter by 11:59pm on 5/15/2010.

And while picking the winners is something we'll do internally, we're not above hitching up our skirts and showing you a little taste of the fan-freakin'-tastic entries we've received.

To be fair to all the entrants, I've picked the very first submission, the most recently submitted, and five more using a random number generator.  These are just a taste for you to enjoy this fine Friday, with no Dark Øverlord Media preference stated by the posting itself.

These are just snapshots, you can see the full-sized logos at Scott's Flickr page.

Tuaca, the Italian Taint Juice™Let's Get Pissed with the FDO™ - Click & Listen

NOT SAFE FOR WORK!!!

Oh, Junkies. Here we go again. Scott was out surveying the Plaid Tanks this morning, and his cousin Frankie Dominic Olivieri stopped by the Lair of Døøm™. Being a persuasive type, Frankie convinced me to dig in the archives and find this episode, recorded just before the Parsec Award ceremony at Dragon*Con 2009.

This ... is ... comedy! If you've not heard Frankie before, be warned, again, NOT SAFE FOR WORK.

Mentioned in the 'cast:
• John Cmar
• Jennifer Hathorn
• PG Holyfield

Previous episodes of Let's Get Pissed with the FDO:

Today's FridayFix™ is just a little bit of "are you kidding me?  I love living in the future!" that is perfectly timed to kick-off the 30-day countdown for the release of ANCESTOR in hardcover, one month from tomorrow.

The ANCESTOR is "a computer-engineered living creature, an animal whose organs can be implanted in any person, with no chance of transplant rejection." Back in 2005 when Scott began writing ANCESTOR, J. Craig Venter's artificial virus -- an actual living organism created from scratch -- was part of the inspiration.

So imagine the excitement around the Lair of Døøm™ yesterday when Venter held a press conference to announce the first self-replicating synthetic bacterial cell! Does this shit right here sound familiar? "A cell starting with the digital code in the computer, building the chromosome from four bottles of chemicals. This is the first self-replicating species we've had on the planet who's parent is a computer."

So, this isn't exactly Genada creating the Ancestor, but it is exactly the first step they take to get to the cuddly Baby McButter.

Life imitating art or art imitating life? Or, reality imitating Siglerism, as it should be.

We here at Dark Øverlord Media are on our way to sci-fi conventions this Memorial Day weekend (the FDO™ and I are on our way to BayCon, while the Build Team of Sadock, Ms. Information & Gmork are at Balticon.) But, since you came all this way, I thought I'd announce the very talented artists who won the STARTER Logo contest.  It was a close race for a number of team logos, and we're thrilled to have had so many interpretations to choose from.

Congratulations to the winners:

Casey Alden: Chillich Spider Bears

Adrian Bogart "Punchy": Yall Criminals

Ben Clifford "The Supreme Narutard" : Sala Intrigue, Coranadillana Cloudkillers, Hittoni Hullwalkers, Lu Juggernauts

Seth Hanisek "w_nightshade" : Vik Vanguard

Steve Henry: Alimum Armada, Jang Atom Smashers

Len Peralta: Isis Ice Storm

Scott E Pond "ScottEPond": Shorah Warlords, To Pirates, New Rodina Astronauts, Themala Dreadnaughts

Larry Purcell: Bartel Water Bugs

James  Schmill "Puke": D'Kow War Dogs, Bord Brigands

A. P. Stephens: Jupiter Jacks

What's that?

Junkies, the time has come for proper ANCESTOR pimpiage. Check out this beautiful trailer. Please spread links to this -- email to your friends and family, let them know the powah of the FDO™ and his goal to make this book tear up the New York Times best-seller list.

For you old-school fans, can you believe this is the same book you heard in 2006? Your FDO™ has come a long way, baby, and he's ready for the final sprint to June 22 and the tour. Many people helped make this trailer a knockout, but special thanks to director Aaron Proctor and FX guru Kevin Capizzi for an insane amount of work (and if you recognize the name "Capizzi," it's because he did the original, white ANCESTOR cover in 2007).

Coach Sigler Father's Day Special - Click & Listen

Last year for Father's Day, Scott interviewed his dad. Scott loved recording it, and Junkies seem to dig it too. As it happens, Coach's favorite Sigler book is ANCESTOR, so I thought it would be fun to get them back on the phone this year.   They talk ANCESTOR, Michigan, cows, "Da Yoop," and even some football (of course they talk about football, those two have football on the brain).

I hope you enjoy this second annual installment, and happy Father's Day!
Get your pops a Father's Day present at Eastbay! Use the coupon code AFSIGLER to save 20% off orders of $75 or more or 15% off any order with the code: AFSCOTT1. Get Dad something from his favorite team and ship it right to his door with just a few clicks.

OJ Lisa Adams and her weekend reading.

It's been a big week around these parts, and it's not over yet!  Scott's on the road, meeting and greeting on the ANCESTour.  He's getting such a kick out of seeing folks post their pictures, we've decided to have one last fun contest this last weekend!

Grab your new copy of the ANCESTOR hardcover, take a pic of it (and you!) and post it in the 2010 ANCESTOR Book Launch! group on Flickr. (If you don't use Flickr, you can email it to contest@scottsigler.com.)  On June 29th at noon (PDT) we'll pick a winner to receive a mint-condition copy of the 2007 white-cover ANCESTOR.

Go get 'em, and don't get eaten!

Warning: there's no Siglerificness in this download!

Click here to download George Hrab's Trebuchet!

Friend of Dark Øverlord Media George Hrab recently released his new album Trebuchet, and is taking a page out of the Sigler playbook by offering it in it's entirety, for free, here today. Also, he's performing tonight at the Center for Inquiry NYC, if you're local you should check it out.

Now, this isn't a music 'cast, and might not be your kind of music (we dig, but think George should put out a meh-talll album next) but we just had to drop this in the feed because in addition to George, our own Design Diva of Døøm, MsInformation, had her well-manicured hands all over Trebuchet. If you'd like to grab a physical copy to see her handiwork, click the album art at left. [And, she's furiously working on THE STARTER at this very moment.]

Scott's still on the road for Week Two of the ANCESTOR Tour.  He's in Chicago tonight, Detroit tomorrow, then wrapping up the last few stops next week. Today's FridayFix™ is something different:

Liu Jian Dan's blog, as created back in 2007, for the first print version of ANCESTOR.

You'll notice some of the names and incidents have changed between versions.  And you'll notice the blogger behind Jian's posts was never revealed … until now. Back in 2007, Scott turned to P.G. Holyfield to blog as Jian, and P.G. rose to the challenge.  This blog is fun and full of references to the first print version of the book.  I hope you enjoy this quick peek back!

[img_assist|nid=4015|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=100|height=100]P.G. Holyfield is a fantasy writer that has been a Junkie since April of 2006. He is the author of Murder at Avedon Hill, available from Dragon Moon Press, and the story “Death, Taxes, and Scott Sigler,” which Scott played in his feed in December of 2006.

P.G. is currently hard at work on the sequel to Murder at Avedon Hill. All of P.G.’s podcast content can be found at http://pgholyfield.com. He has the distinction of being the podcast author with the most Parsec Award losses in history without a win (a record previously held by Scott Sigler).

FridayFix!The FDO™ and I were amazed with the entries, both quantity and quality, but the judges have spoken! The winner of the ANCESTOR user-generated video contest is Adrian Picardi's vision of the "Where is Sara?" script (click here to read the script in PDF form).Three of the four judges voted for this one, so it's a clear-cut choice.

The FDO™ and I thank you all for entering. This was the coolest contest we have ever done, and it was amazing to see the vision and interpretations of so many Junkies. We'll be doing this again sometime in the future.

And as a personal comment to Adrian, the snakeskin-jacket Magnus was sweeeeeeet. Great performances, and killer lighting.

Are you ready for some football?

With the first 2010 NFL Preseason game this Sunday, and the publication date for THE STARTER just over a month away, it's getting pretty giddy around the Lair of Døøm™. We've acquired a Warehouse of Døøm (South) and lots and lots of shipping supplies, and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of THE STARTER pallets.

To celebrate, we're going to introduce you to the Tier One Teams, three at a time, over the next few weeks. The first three teams to meet the Ionath Krakens in battle this season?

I had the good fortune to meet Len Peralta at Comic Con, and spend some time with him and his fabulous wife.  If you're coming to Dragon*Con, you can catch Len and Sigler together on a the "Podcasts and Marketing to the Masses" panel.

And if you're digging the Dreadnaughts & Warlords logos, rest assured this isn't the last we'll see of ScottEPond, as he's got two more winning Tier One logos.

If you haven't ordered yours, get on that.  Personalization available only until 8/20/2010, and you don't want to miss out.

Whose house? OUR HOUSE!

Play hard, and leave it all on the field.

THE STARTER is less than a month away now. The FDO™ and I have made the lists, checked them twice.  He's practicing his signature, and I'm assigning numbers to names and printing labels like mad.

Continuing from last week's post, here are the next three Tier One teams who will face the Krakens in THE STARTER. (Actually, the Wabash Wolfpack is in here somewhere also, but y'all have already seen that one.)

THE STARTER will be in San Diego early next week. The FDØ™ will also be here in less than a week.  And in less than two weeks? Some of y'all will have your copies in your hot little hands.  I can't wait!

Continuing the series, here are the next three Tier One teams who will face the Krakens in THE STARTER.

Oh, and you really shouldn't argue with me about ordering … just run the plays that I call.

It's on!  The books are in, we're working hard to get them sent out.  Looks like the GFL season is about to begin!

I believe it was Tolstoy who said, "I'm back in the saddle again." Tolstoy or Tyler, I can't remember which, but it matters not -- what does matter is that the Gorline has returned. It's been a long time since the Junkies heard their own melifluous voice leak out of little speakers all over the world. These messages are a little old, but we're going to catch up on everything we've got, and your FDO™'s snarky responses are fresh (and so clean!).

Want in on the action? Just call 206-666-4673 and leave a message (and yeah, I know Scott needs to change the greeting, been nagging him for months about that ... not that I ever have to nag him).

VIDEO MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:
The FDO™ refers to a "workout video" in this episode. That's actually a video titled "THE STARTER is on sale now!" and the workout bit begins at 2:25 into it -- click here to watch.

The State of THE STARTER

ARealGirlAnd now for something completely different. We've decided to make FridayFix™ a separate podcast, complete with its own fancy-pants intro. It will be hosted by me, ARealGirl (although this first episode we have the FDO™ on, and -- of course -- he just took over).

We seem to have enough news, tidbits and outtakes for a new show. FridayFix™ will continue to feature art and video from Siglerism, and now podcasts as well. Got something you want to see/hear on the FridayFix™? Well, just call the GoreLine at 206-666-4673 and tell us what you want.

In this first episode, we answer a ton of questions about THE STARTER: how are sales going, when was publication date, when can you order THE ALL-PRO, etc. Enjoy!

Let's Get Pissed: Pablo & Amy from Tor.com

Please be warned -- this is not safe for work, this is not safe for your kids. This is basically a room full of people screaming foul language at the top of their lungs (and there is also some comedy in there, fo 'sho).

What we have here is an undiscovered gem from Dragon*Con 2009. Scott's cousin, Francis Dominick Olivieri (a.k.a., the other FDO). Interviewed Pablo Defendini and Amy Greco who, at the time, worked for the kick-ass scifi site Tor.com. While Pablo was brilliant under fire, I have to say keep your ears open for the one-liners from my girl Amy -- she more than held her own against the verbal-vomit assault that is Francis.

You know how Scott often says "if you're easily offended, turn it off now?" Yeah, this one is like that. Enjoy.

UPDATE!! Two more notes I forgot:  1) Mighty Mur Lafferty is the shot slut this time out, and she's fan-freakin'-tastic.  2) The unofficial third sponsor for this episode was the official author photographer for DØM (check out the cover boy at her site), Surly Amy of Surlyramics.com.

When Scott rolled through Portland, OR on the ANCESTOR tour, he stopped by ABC affiliate KATU for an interview on the morning show "AM Northwest." A fun, short interview where he (again) bitches about his father taking him to see King Kong as a little kid.

Let's Get Pissed with the FDO™

Oh, my. This one's hard to post, harder to believe, but here it is. Scott's cousin Frankie made it to Dragon*Con 2010 late one night, and he invited me to sit in the hot seat. Even better, he asked the Design Diva of Døøm, Donna Mugavero, to be the "shot slut" for this episode.

I'll be honest, it's all a little fuzzy. But if you've ever wanted to know a little more about me, here's your chance. Somewhere near the end I dropped my mic, so the sound quality there gets a little bit wonky, be forewarned.

A few notes:

  • If you're interested in checking out Skepchick, click here.
  • For more information on the TDAP vaccine, and why it's important, click here.
  • If you have any unanswered questions, about me or anything else, you can call the Goreline (206-666-4673) and we'll try and get you your answers.
  • And last, although there does not seem to be footage of me showing off my winning dance moves, you can catch the FDO™'s interpretation of them here on YouTube.
As usual, this episode is not safe for work, but I do hope you like it as a kick-start to your weekend. Be sure to come back here on Sunday for the ANCESTOR Episode #22.
