We've launched KISSYMAN AND THE GENTLEMAN as a free novella over at Podiobooks.com! No jibber-jab, just nonstop noir action.

New York City, 1946. No one knows his real name, but when the job is too dirty, too dangerous, you call Kissyman. Once he was an elite Nazi SS commando, an honorable soldier, a taker of lives. When he was assigned to Dachau and saw what he was actual fighting for, he went AWOL and ran as far away as he could -- to America. He still makes his living with a gun, but he no longer kills for his country. Now, he kills for cash.

A dashing, high-profile bodyguard known as “The Gentleman” is hired to protect Beth Copenhaver, an up-and-coming Hollywood starlet. When a man named Mathis Wrenn surfaces from Beth’s past and threatens her life, The Gentleman hires Kissyman to make Mathis see the error of his ways. It should be a simple job, but there is far more to the connection between Wrenn and Beth than the bombshell lets on. She’s starring in a new movie with John Wayne called Western Dawn. As the premier approaches, Kissyman has to get to Wren before Wrenn can get to Beth.

Eeeexcellent, it would appear to be time for a relisten to the story in question. Also, this taking over the world thing, it would appear you'll be having an undead theme for the whole thing, given the, to say the least, haunted look.

Due do a small apartment and a small bathroom (and the Evil Queen™ heading to work), this video was shot pre-shower, pre-coffee. You can see how alert and sexy I am when this happens.

I started re-listening to The Rookie on

Podiobooks.com stream and noticed that they compressed the living shit out of it. Your re-mastered audio, which is damned fine stuff is all filled with stinky compression artifacts and your dulcet tones have gone all warbley.

Why for how come they do this to our FDO(tm)?

It came down as MPEG-1, Layer 3 at 128kbps 44.1kHz sample rate.

I have the original and the remastered release direct from your feed and they sound awesome. The old, original Rookie files are similar but at 80kbps.

I didn't hear any artifacts in the episodes I sampled.

I checked episodes 3, 7, 11, & 19. Were the artifacts you discovered ubiqitous or only in isolated locations?

I'm assuming you got the episodes direct from http://www.podiobooks.com/title/the-rookie, correct? If you got them anywhere else, it's possible you might have somehow gotten the old episodes (ie before I went through and re-mastered them). Please try re-downloading an episode or two from here and see if the artifacts are still present.

I just noticed that in your initial post, you said "streaming"

Was that accurate?

When you're streaming audio, it opens up a whole 'nother bucket of worms that varies minute to minute since you're "downloading" the audio live. If you were experiencing artifacts while streaming, I wouldn't be surprised. It's kind of similar to getting bad radio reception.

Did I miss something?

Just finished Kissyman and the Gentleman. Enjoyed it; nice change. But imagine my surprise when Lefty shows up in the last scene with dog biscuits in one hand and Twinkies in the other. Lefty, who had been running around with one arm for 9 ¾ episodes; ok, 8 ¾ - he was not in the first episode.

Did I miss something? Did an ancestor provide him with a spare arm or something? Or is FDO just getting happy with the ‘literary license’? (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Not complaining, mind you. I’m well aware that this is FDO’s universe and I just worship here. I’m just saying… that’s all.
