So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....

And more importantly, where does our FDO stand? McCain, Obama, or Clinton? I'm a one issue man. Anyone tough on Islam-o-fascists has got my vote (McCain, duhhh). At first I wasn't sure that I liked the Old Guy, but I took this Newsweek politic quiz, and I matched McCain at like 95%... and this was when there were still 10+ candidates in the running. If you don't know a whole lot about the guy, check him out, you maybe surprised. One interesting tidbit (that have a lot to do with the election) I learned, was that his grandfather and McCain's Grandfather and father were the first pair of father/son Four-Star admirals in the Navy. I think it'd like HIM to answer the phone at 3am, whatcha think?

why should we discuss politics here too. If we want to discuss politics there are plenty of other sites to do so.

let's just keep this to some other side.

I'm with treed: I'm not posting here anymore.

1) This isn't just any forum... it's members are Sigler fans! Sharing that interest and a certain taste in our choice of reading/listening material makes our opinions matter (to each other at least).

2) This forum, along with any other forum, doesn't need your comments/views/opinions if you don't want to share them. Feel free to ignore this thread, or any other you choose.

we had better be ready. It is important to pick the candidate that won't whine too much or forget to sharpen the chicken scissors.  We will have to delve into all kinds of political BS just to make sure we have the right people in the right places ....befor the take-over.

Clinton is OUT... Now what?

AaronS889's picture

SO what do you all think? Will she be the VP? Happy? Sad?

Aaron

Hmmm...

Insignificant Blood Splatter's picture

On one hand I'm happy because I'm for Obama. On the other hand I'm sad that she's out because I'd love a woman president. Though I'm so impressed with how far she made it!

I do have to stay on the happy side though, unless she become's Obama's VP. Since I can't vote... My parents are for Obama but if Hilary becomes VP...they'll be voting for Oldie.

And no offense, since you do like McCain...but I just can't imagine voting for him. He's just so old! He's either going to go senile or die in office, IMO. And until I know who his VP is...never going to happen. Not that it would of. Because of Bush I just can't go for another republican in office until...maybe 500 years from now.

"Urban legends go well with parmesan and horror. In fact their name is conveniently one and the same: Stevie."

I have to confess...

AaronS889's picture
After reading more and more about Obama, and doing the comparisons between McCain and he, I'm starting to think that Obama winning may not be as bad as I once believed. The constantly changing situation in the Middle East is starting to make the current aggressive policies look outdated. Trying to follow the king's, dictators, general's, not to mention Cleric, Sheik, and Supreme Leader's alliances and motives is maddening. I don't know... it all makes my head hurt... maybe Obama can figure it out? Aaron

The importance of voting to me... and other stuff

AaronS889's picture

I believe my past played a role in my strong feelings about voting and government/politics in general. When I was 18 I got in trouble with the law. Felony offence (anabolic steroids ITD). A black mark on my record so dark and deep that from that moment forward (till recently) I would be haunted by it. Thankfully, I didn't go to jail or serve any time, but I did get 5 years probation. What I didn't realize at the time... was what having a felony on your record as an adult, in the professional world, will do to your employability and career options. Hell, when I was 18 anything that didn't include bars and hardcore felon types sounded go to me. So, I was happy to plead out when I heard that I wouldn't be going to the slammer (Angola was a real option for the judge... the Farm, ya know?). I could put all this foulness behind me, right? Nope. Back to my point... I wasn't allowed to vote from 1998 till 2005, when I had the charges expunged. Thankfully I qualified for a relatively new program called "Louisiana Non-Violent First Time Offender Program". In the court room with me during my expungement hearing was a 55 year old African American woman who 35 years ago was arrested for underage drinking and when caught she ran from the policeman. Apparently back then in the 9th ward of New Orleans the police could get a little rough. She was charged with resisting arrest (a felony). Since has been married, had children, her oldest had children, she completed college, then nursing school. After all of that she was denied a nursing license because of that event 35 years ago. I on the other hand don't kids or a family, but I did get a political science degree and finished graduate school with a masters in P.S. The moral of the story is that sometimes you don't appreciate what you have till it's no longer available to you.

Anyway, I've went way off track. It's late and I am just writing to write. Chapter 20-22 of Infected kicked ass. I'm almost at the end of The Rookie, then I'll be waiting for the next thing like the rest of you.

Adios for now.

Some things need to be shared, I wish that more real-life lessons were made available.   I am sure everyone who reads that post will either thank God they didn't get caught doing whatever the illegal thing was they were doing and vow never to do it again... or.....realise this was something to really wake them up, slap them in the face and think about, before they do something that could change their whole life.    What's sad is that what is reasonable, right and just, often has little to do with what can happen to someone that has gotten into trouble.   *I am the Rear Admiral but Sigler gives the Orders*

I tried to stay off this post because I knew it was going to turn into a screed and yes, it has.
Hussein is one of the most common names in the world.  Maybe not in East Bodunk, Illiniois, but in the rest of the world.  Who gives a rat's ass if Obama's middle name is Hussein or if he went to a religious school.
I'm not going to vote for the man, but his being or not being muslim has NOTHING to do with my decision and if it has anything to do with yours, you need to ask yourself why.
I don't care if a person is a Catholic, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist or Athiest.  What I care about is their integrity and if they are going to put the good of the country before their own ego.
I live one mile from the Xcel Center in St. Paul.  Since new security laws ensure that protests and protesters aren't allowed within 2 miles of El Jefe the War Criminal (Bush), I wonder if the feds are going to put me up in a nice hotel in the burbs.  I'm still thinking about climbing up on my roof and painting "Jail all the murdering MoFo's" in neon paint.  The ABC helicopter jocks might enjoy that.

Bush: A war criminal?

AaronS889's picture

Just a quick note....

I regularly hear people compare President Bush with Hitler, or call him a war criminal, and I wonder what world these people live on. I originally supported Bush, and since 2004 have come to conclusion that he has made some serious mistakes. Hell, he may even be a BAD president, but a war criminal or comparable to Hitler (a man who had 10+ million people killed). I think it's fair to say that Bush is NOT a devious malicious person. Has he made some seriously bad judgment calls? Sure. Is he EVIL, no way. We have had some pretty big scandals in the executive branch through out the years. Other presidents have exhibited extremely questionable judgment. I could list the scandal and the president each belongs to, but I said this would be a quick note....

Aaron

War criminal?

Wolf's picture

Maybe not. Mass murderer?  I think so. Here's a man who sent thousands of people to their deaths just to get 1 man. Well, Saddam died a long time ago and now Bush is too stubborn to just get our boys out or too stoopid to figure out how to do it while looking like a hero. He wanted to 1 up his dad and 9-11 was just what he needed. To the rest of America, 9-11 was horrendous. To W, it was an excuse. OK, Bush said "Mission accomplished". Where the hell are our troops, then? Why are they still dieing for a country that never wanted them there? When will the last American die because of this Presidents ego?

"just to get 1 man"

ROFL!  "mission accomplished" yes we accomplished some missions, however thats not what that banner was saying.

How about you explain it to

Wolf's picture
How about you explain it to all of us, then.

here it goes

n8man's picture

to start: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030128-19.html
read this before you say anything about the motives of the war in iraq
secondly: if George Bush is stupid, who did you vote for in 2004 or 2000? George Bush got better grades at Yale(he also attended Harvard) than Kerry. He did better on his college placment and officers exams than gore or kerry
third: "mission accomplished". that banner was requested by the commanding officer of that  ship, where Bush was speaking to congradulate the crew on the completion of their mission in the actual "war" in Iraq(which lasted only two weeks by the way, what going on now i like to call the "conflict' in Iraq).  even if you took it to mean that the war was over IT WAS! if you took it to mean one of our  goals was met, MANY WERE!
whew that was a lot of typing...
to be continued...

-sometimes refered to as the harvard of the south. it is partnered with trinity university in england, so i would but my degree from there up against his anyday, plus i got my masters in mathematics. as to flying jets, my father in law flew in Korea, and he had a few stories about his fellow pilots, so just because he flew jets did not guarintee him intellegence.

stupidity/idiocy has nothing to do with knowledge

treed's picture

-it has to do with choices and standing by those choices even when it is discovered they were BAD choices, denying you even made a bad choice and allowing OTHERS to make bad choices for you and continue to trust these people with more choices. Not learning from the past and making better choices, not admitting when you made a mistake or a bad descision. also, knowing you have an image problem because of how you speak and the "words" you use, and choosing NOT to fix it, or attempt to is idiotic.
http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/

you are being very vague.

you can have all the intelligence in the world

treed's picture

-and still make bad choices, consistantly, never learn from them, not try to improve yourself and make better choices. you are an idiot. if you have all the resources availible to you. have access to the most knowledgeable people and still consistantly make bad choices and do acknowledge these bad choices, that makes you an idiot. if you are caught in HUGE lies and still hold to those lies and do not apologize and try to make things right. not only makes you a liar, but a fool.
http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/

if you give me a specific example,

chances are i can tell you why i think that it is incorrect.

I think that G W Bush's

zackmann's picture
I think that G W Bush's memoir will be called 'I'm not an Idiot, I just played one on TV' . Look at how he got everyone to buy smaller car because we can't afford gas which we need to buy more of because we have to work extra days to buy gas.The brush cleaning was a little help to the environment but more help than letting all that lumber burn as if no one had ever hear of sustainable harvest and making us use all that diesel to get the wood we were not harvesting here from Canada. Look at how he chose Mr Chenny as VP. Who would try it hurt or impeach Mr Bush and put Darth Vader in charge? (yes it is only a nick name) Mr Bush did pick the most powerful man in the world, Ben S. Bernanke. Mayor Newsum is largely but not even close to solely responsible for his 2nd term and possible first election win in 2004. The other candidates could have done better even if someones service record was lied about.
Or I am totally wrong and the damage from the alcohol has already done mass amounts of damage before Mr Bush repented from that vice.
