Long time fan and finally had to sign up and officially become a junkie. I am finally listening to the new and “improved” Nocturnal. I dig it and as a novel it is better. I kind of dug the almost comic book vibe of the original and it would make an awesome graphic novel but feel the rewrite makes a more cohesive story. Take into account I am currently only on episode 15 and have only two complaints. Ninja is cooler than terminator and the perfect audio version would be narration and all of the other voices as they are but Scott will always be Pookie to me.
Merry Christmas Junkies!!

@Belladona420: That is awesome.
Thank you! It’s a work in progress. Hopefully one, but probably two, more sitting(s) to complete it. CAN. NOT. WAIT.
I just finished The Rookie and quite enjoyed it (despite not liking football much at all). However I was irritated by the “Hudson Bay Space Elevator”. It dragged me completely out of the story. It just can’t happen.
Space elevators are a real idea and we may eventually build one but all space elevators will terminate on the equator. This is because the only geosynchronous orbits possible around any planet are above its equator. You can’t put a satellite in geosynchronous orbit over a pole (i.e. north pole or south pole). This is obvious if you try to visualize the orbit around the pole. Similarly there are no geosynchronous orbits for any latitudes other than 0 degrees (i.e. on the equator). As you move away from the equator the orbit will appear less and less “stationary” (or “synchronous”) from the point of view of the surface of the Earth.
Hudson Bay is at 60 degrees North latitude. There’s just no way to anchor a space elevator at Hudson Bay with a satellite or a counterweight. And if you tried to build from Hudson Bay to a satellite at the equator (with the counterbalance going south of the equator) the forces don’t balance. Instead their would be a huge torque on the elevator (let alone no feasible way to build the elevator that far north).
Apologies if someone already covered this. I did a search for “space elevator” (and some other terms like “orbital elevator” and “Hudson Bay”) on siglerpedia and in these forums but nothing about this popped up.
Thinking that one can go into geosynchronous orbit over any point on a planet seems to be a common mistake in science fiction (I think they even made this mistake on a few of the old Star Trek shows) but I expect more from Sigler.
I know for a fact that the website itself is still sending emails. I get one anytime someone posts a new comment in a forum thread that I’m watching.
I cannot speak towards general information emails. I think I got one a month or two ago, but I can’t recall for certain. I’m fairly certain I did not receive an email about the Solstice sale. I did see the announcement drop into the podcast feed and listened to it immediately because it was so short (ie under 2 minutes). Looking back on it now, that does seem kind of odd that they didn’t send out an email announcement. It may have been an oversight on their part. We’ll have to wait for @ScottSigler or @ARealGirl to address this question to get a definitive answer one way or another.
No, you won’t have it in Jan. ’15. I didn’t see the word “January,” which is weird, since it is almost 10% of the sentence, and the longest word. It should be out in 2015, but not Jan.
That’s okay. As much as we Junkies often think as you as a deity, you are, in fact, merely a human being who is bound to make mistakes.
it’s surely not going to be published in January 2015. But it will be available in Q1 2015.
Thanks for clearing that up, A. These novellas seem to be the books that refuse to be released on time. I looked back through my GFL hardcovers and was quite amused at what I found on the “Also by Scott Sigler” pages:
In THE ALL PRO: [published September 2011]
Bones Are White [not published until March 27, 2012]
In THE MVP: [published September 2012]
The Gangster (Coming in 2013) [still not out]
The Rider (Coming in 2013) [expected in Q1 of 2015]
Fire is Orange (Coming in 2013) [still not out]
In THE CHAMPION: [published September 2014]
The Gangster (Coming in 2014) [still not out]
The Rider (Coming in 2014) [expected in Q1 of 2015]
The Reef (Coming in 2014) [still not out]
Fire is Orange (Coming in 2014) [still not out]
So, as you can see, best laid plans and all that. It seems the universe just doesn’t want this series to end. Or maybe it’s trying to test the Krakens resolve or some such. That whole Job concept. I can’t wait to see what kind of Dinolition story Paul & Scott whipped up.
As an Australian with no interest in NFL whatsoever I will miss QB actually playing footbal.
I get the feeling this is on of those things that doesnt fix but that is so so sad.
Well … not exactly.
I expect it to land on my desk sometime in January (which is less than two weeks from now, and over the holidays, remember).
Once it lands on my desk, it needs copyediting, then Sigler needs to review that copyedit. Once that’s sorted, it goes to ebook formatting, which can take up to six weeks. (And yes, pre-emptively, I will say I know I could do it myself, or go with any number of people we know who could format it faster than that. I want it done in every format and guaranteed for life, so I’m going with eBook Architects.)
So, it’s surely not going to be published in January 2015. But it will be available in Q1 2015.
I do not seem to be receiving email from the site anymore. Last one I received was back in early November. Ended up missing out on the Christmas sale since I rely on announcement emails. School and work is what I blame.
Anyone else not getting emails? Or has it just been since early November since one went out.
Yeah, I’ve searched everything, opened all the boxes, even looked in some other things to make sure I had not stashed it there for safe keeping. I was pretty sure I had put it in with my Ancestor paperback, which I have.
Does that mean we can expect it in January of 2015?
CORRECTION: No, you won’t have it in Jan. ’15. I didn’t see the word “January,” which is weird, since it is almost 10% of the sentence, and the longest word. It should be out in 2015, but not Jan.
We were very close, then a death in the family threw off our schedules by a week (which led into the holidays, which destroys all schedules). Need to finish up a short story that is due very soon, then will be locked onto THE RIDER.
It’s close! I have about 50 pages to go in the final edit before it goes into production. Cover is almost done. It’s on hold until we finish shipping THE CHAMPION, then, hopefully, I can get at it. But no promises — could be as late as 2015 before you see Pete do his thang.
and then he and @ARealGirl chatted about THE RIDER being close to finished on yesterday’s FridayFix. Y’all said the cover was finished and A was excited that she got to tell Paul E. Cooley it was only pushed back 4 days this time. Does that mean we can expect it in January of 2015?
