ok guys, i might have an idea. the site-search feature seems to be unable to cope up with the big amount of content on this site (this includes all the comments and forum posts aswell).

i am going to disable that feature for a couple of days and you guys pay close attention to the response times for a week or so. An announcement will be made right here when the search feature comes back online so we can compare our results.

we might be on something here!

it would still be used by crawler-bots and ppl who do acutally look for the search button. right now i need to be 100% sure if this is really the root cause. once we have identified the search to be blamed for the bad performance, i will start planing a complete indexing / searching replacement. Perhaps something solr/lucene based.

Anyway, keep you eyes open for a couple of days more.

Our search function always seemed to be somewhat overwhelmed. I didn't think it was having a debilitating function outside of itself though.

Things are getting pretty slow again!

Sometimes, the new page just pops right up.  But when it's slow, it's S-L-O-W!  I've read several e-mails while waiting for pages to load at times.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've found everything moving more quickly since i closed the "Ancestor Tour Date" widget. You might want to give it a try and see if it helps you, too.

the slowdowns MIGHT be caused by all the external widgets not hosted on this site. those might halt the page rendering until the loading is done. I'll be looking ito this issue this weekend. I presume no one of you can reproduce this slowdowns on each page load?
