Time to pay up Junkies!

  • Avatar of Arioch Morningstar

So, since you were the big winner, it becomes incumbent upon you to think up the next CH wager pool does it not?

I got a kick out of the fact that we totally flip flopped on the CH chart when I paid you. 1000 CHs differential will do that.

So if my math’s right, here’s how things stood after the awards last night:

Mycroft:  Owes sadock  400 CHs ——–>  PAID 9/6/09

    I AM— : Owes sadock  100 CHs ——–>  PAID 9/6/09

sadock Owes Wolf  500 CHs  ——–>  PAID 9/6/09

     KristynaMae: Owes sadock  200 CHs

     K_Mc: Owes sadock  100 CHs

MuchAdo: Owes sadock  100 CHs  ——–>  PAID 9/6/09

sadock  Owes Twowire  200 CHs  ——–>  PAID 9/6/09

Thanks for beating me to the punch MuchAdo. I’ll be getting the rest of y’all your CH’s and PMing you reminders momentarily. Thanks for playing. Wound up being more or less a wash for me (+200 CH if everyone actually pays up), but I still had fun. Hopefully you did too. Cheers.

Due to some things I’m not going to go into, EuSocial Networking has been moved from Short Form to Novella. I think this actually increases Scott’s chances of winning the award, so that’s frakkin’ awesome. All it really means here is that Two Wire and Wolf have a free bet Cool I’ll pay out on EuSocial at the odds I gave you for short form, even though I’m going to rate it as a better bet for Novella. Feel free to bet again on a different Short Form story if you like, or hold tight. Your choice. Just wanted to keep you posted on developing events as they occured.

Oh, the theft of older myths and using that theft to incorporate it into your "new" religion is amazing. They didn’t even bother to re-name Easter. She is a pagan Goddess. Appropriating the Winter Solstice for Christmas is one of my and the Spring Equinox for Easter is rather obvious as well. And gee, doesn’t Satan look a whole lot like Pan?

Nope, no double entendre intended there at all. Although if you happened to take it that way, it wouldn’t really surprise me. I’m a big fan of Erotica a la Carte myself. There’s a reason that I put it at the lowest odds. I expect it will walk away with the award. Maybe PseudoPod, but my money would be on Erotica as well. Good bet, even if you only double your CHs!

100 CHs on The Goodbye Party at 3:1 odds.

That will be a close race. I’m betting JC gets it because they robbed him by not giving him anything for 7th Son and Gestalt is pretty solid. Was Obsidian as good as the rest of the trilogy? I never subscribed to JCs feed because it was always so cluttered with crap. Figured Obsidian would make it over to PB.com eventually, but maybe not.

Just think of that grapevine game you played in school when you were a kid. Word of mouth is horrid for accuracy.

On a completely different note (*really*), <looks sweet and innocent> did you know that the Gospels of Jesus were not written down until approximately 45-65 AD? And the Lord God never did put pen to paper. Every book of The Bible was written by a frail and fallible mortal man.

Those facts have absolutely nothing to do with one another. I swear.

Okay, no one really seems to be doing much of anything with their crack hits besides accumulating them ad inifinitum, so I’m going to try an experiment. How about we place bets on the Parsec Awards for 2009? If your forgot the nominees, here’s the list again:

Best Speculative Fiction Story (Short Form):

    • Best in Class by Jonathan C. Gillespie, Variant Frequencies - (5:1 payoff)
    • ————deleted————–
    • Gestalt by J. C. Hutchins, Playing For Keeps – (2:1 payoff)
    • The Goodbye Party by Christiana Ellis, 7th Son: Obsidian – (3:1 payoff)
    • St. Darwin’s Spirituals by D.K. Thompson, Variant Frequencies - (7:1 payoff)
    • Under The Bed by Michael Natale, Variant Frequencies - (9:1 payoff)——————–>WINNER!!!

Best Speculative Fiction Story (Novella Form):

    • Eden by Phil Rossi - (3:1 payoff)
    • The End of Flesh by Matt Wallace, Variant Frequencies - (4:1 payoff)
    • Nemesis by Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff, 7th Son: Obsidian - (5:1 payoff)
    • Pallas & Stan by Matt Wallace, Playing For Keeps - (2:1 payoff)
    • Profit of Panamindorah Book3: Fire and Flood by Abigail Hilton - (15:1 payoff)
    • Eusocial Networking by Scott Sigler (2:1 payoff) – added 8/02/2009 ——————->WINNER!!!

    Best Speculative Fiction Story (Novel):

    • Contagious by Scott Sigler – (3:1 payoff)
    • Double Share by Nathan Lowell - (4:1 payoff)
    • FETIDUS – The Foundation for the Ethical Treatment of the Innocently Damned, Undead and Supernatural by James Durham – (13:1 payoff)——————–>WINNER!!!
    • Fractured Horizon by H.E. Roulo - (10:1 payoff)
    • The Metamor City by Chris Lester - (2:1 payoff)

Best Speculative Fiction Magazine or Anthology Podcast:

    • Bloodcast, Season 2 – (6:1 payoff)
    • Erotica a la carte - (2:1 payoff)
    • NeoHooDoo Studio - (10:1 payoff)
    • Pseudopod -(3:1 payoff)——————–>WINNER!!!
    • Variant Frequencies - (4:1 payoff)

So what I’m thinking is I will play banker for this, set up some odds, pretty much arbitrarily, and away we go! I do ask that no one place bets of more than 100 CHs since I’d rather not wind up with 0 CHs after this is all said and done.

We can settle accounts once everyone recovers from DragonCon. I know there are going to be a LOT of you there this year. And at least one of you (You know who you are) promised me they were bringing a camcorder. I still can’t believe Scott won last year and the acceptance speech was lost in time. Sad Day :(

If this works out and it’s fun, we can do it for all sorts of things. I’ve listed the odds in bold immediately after each title. Best of luck to everyone and hopefully this idea appeals to you.
