-been married a year, working in a child scare center while wife attended seminary in dallas
that was the year and nutcase shot up the battle of flowers parade. he’d shoot till one gun jammed and start with the next. then he shot himself in the head. we had brought a friend from school. damn……. if i had not wanted to avoid all the people getting to our seats, we would have been front row and center when he started shooting
GAWD that was a lifetime ago

1980.  I graduated on June 1st and was on a plane to Lackland on June 2nd.
I enjoyed the Riverwalk and the Alamo.  Being before the PeeWee days, I didn’t ask to see the basement.  LOL
My biggest priority that day was to find out what theatre was showing "The Empire Strikes Back".  I’d just missed it and spent 6 weeks doing the ‘pee pee’ dance in anticipation of town pass and a movie theatre.
When our TI told us that we could ask questions about the outside world, mine was, "What theatre in town has "The Empire Strikes Back" playing.  They looked at me like I’d dropped my brain on the floor.  But, they did find out for me and I finally to to see it.
The post title of ‘Barbie Doll’ is because everyone who has seen my basic training photo says I look exactly like a Barbie Doll with a big Barbie Doll smile.  What can I say, I was 18, blonde and exceptionally happy to be out of Windham, Ohio.

-but then we have all three parades in a 5 day span
    http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/

    Profile photo of Barbara Jungbauer

Sorry, Dear Treed.  Your parade isn’t the only night-time one and doesn’t even come close to being the oldest night time parade.  We are happy that y’all down in Texas have taken our good ideas and interpreted them for yourselves.

The Saint Paul Winter Carnival has been celebrated since 1886 and we have a torchlight parade to mark the victory of Vulcanus Rex over good King Boreas and have had for 122 years.
    http://www.winter-carnival.com/history/

Minneapolis (the wimps across the river who cling to summer like bed bugs to a fat kid) celebrates Aquatennial and they have a torchlight parade too.  quote from their page: The first Torchlight Parade was held during the very first Aquatennial in 1940, but back then, it was called the "Illuminated Evening Parade".
    http://www.aquatennial.com/history.php
There is also our Hollidazzle parade every Christmas.  I’m not fond of the blatant commercialism, but it does run for 2 weeks.
    http://www.holidazzle.com/

    From the Flambeau web site:
The idea of a lighted parade, now one of the premier events of Fiesta, was the brainchild of civil engineer Reynolds Andricks. Despite his insistence that he knew nothing about parades, he was elected to the Board of the Fiesta San Jacinto Association in 1948. His recollection of his first meeting: “I was astounded that so few people seemed interested in Fiesta. They didn’t think that they should add another parade.” He recommended that the ‘new’ parade take place at night and that it be called Fiesta Flambeau.

    -and has more color
and FIESTA!! is happening NOW, a week long PARTY with parades and arts and MUSIC and beer and more beer. okok, more like 10 days started this past friday, runs till this coming saturday. could you have imagined having the final four DURING fiesta……anyways……..next book tour he needs to think about scheduling a couple of days stay here during fiesta, catch the river parade (the only one in the US) or the flambeau (the oldest night parade in the US if not the only one) and then there’s the battle of flowers parade (as long or longer than the macy’s parade) not to mention all the food and beer, art and beer, music and beer. then there’s the folk life festival in june, but thats sun, beer, music, beer arts and crafts (and beer) a cold beer goes down real good this time of the year, but then there’s the beer. and then there is sea world and fiesta texas (a six flags theme park). and then there’s the missions and we must "Remember the ALAMO!!" oh and of course, there is the riverwalk, so spectacular and wonderful it has inspired other cities to develope their own. but then, i just call it home, san antonio, born and raised

Yeah, yeah, I know that people love the Bay Area, but it is so expensive.  The Siglerissimo could live like the king he is here in Houston with the lower cost of living. Try a 2000+ square ft house for less than 130k.  Think about it!  Hell, I’ll even get tsolo888 to mow his yard for him.

What was your favorite line or question?

Personally, I liked "So, when are you gonna come out of the closet?"

Yeah, Houston rocked it, of course.  We are big Siglerites, and when I say big, I mean BIG.  The Siglerissimo needs to get him some bodyguards, and us Houston boys are big.  Don’t believe me?  Here is a picture of me getting my copy of infected signed.

Heh, heh, bring it you biotchs.

So- hey I’ve got to brag for all those who showed up for the book tour in Houston…

    We rocked it!

Sold out the bookstore (60 copies) and probably would have sold even more if they had more copies.

Then packed the microbrewery- Anyone count how many showed?! Folks sorry I didn’t plan ahead well enouigh to get us all to sit together- Damn we had a lot!

But yeah Sigler, now you know how Texas does things! Bigger and Better! Cool

I just hope those WallerDad and MumoOO didn’t kidnap Sigler on the way back to his hotel to make him write the sequel to the Rookie then and there…
