the old BSG. I need to put the new one in my Netflix queue.

Starbuck was a dude? With that hair? And THAT best friend? (Heeheehee…)

    It keeps getting better!

But once we saw a few episodes, we were hooked. For us it didn’t diminish the original, or make it better. It’s almost like these are two similar series, but they don’t have any real relationship. Kind of cool though how there are incredible, solid links in the new show consistent with the original, but there are also things they’ve completely changed. It works for us. This’ll happen on the new Star Trek movie too–it’s deliberately not the next in the long (and tired) movie series. I’ll be something completely new! (We can’t wait!)

I’m sorry, I thought you just said Starbuck was a male character in the old BSG…

I love women,  and I love women who can kick ass, but Starbuck was a cool dude that had a way with the ladies!

Its nice to hear that I have not been missing much then.

    Profile photo of Pons Matal

I thought the Cylons were cool looking! As for the new BSG, I cant watch it because of all the close up action, get motion sickness from it.  I may be a tad chauvinistic also as I didn’t like the fact Starbuck was now a woman! He was one of my favorite MALE characters in the old BSG. :)

"Chief informationless officer of the office of knows nothing" Any questions? :)

I have only watched season 1 for the new retelling,

Please be honest, is it worth buying the DVD sets?

    Profile photo of Raymond Robison

I got season one on DVD an thought oh! this is going to suck. After I watch all of season one is one day I was trying to get season 2 later that night.

It made me want to puke, but not because of the camera movements.

Just saw episode 1 of this new (second) half of this season (4). We can’t get it on the TV here, but Shadygirl’s parents are recording/mailing two episodes at a time to us. Episode 2 tonight–then back to waiting…

This season has really started out slow but last weeks episode really brought the show back to life, even if it cost many.  Hopefully this is the begining of a great climaxical end.

I have everything but the last ten episodes on DVD.

  • I remember having to go across the street to watch BSG at the girls dorm, see, the dorm I was in didn’t even have any TVs. I “paid” my way by fixing the TV over there every time I went over, because the one in their lobby was always on the fritz.

I watched the original in college and 1980 when it came on. I have the original series on DVD and the 1980 part I have on tape, but it is out on DVD Dec 26.

Is anyone having a hard time getting into these last episodes?  I mean I get the whole not have a super happy ending.  But what the F#$%, does it have to be soooo damn depressing?

I had a pair of Battlestar Galactica running shoes when I was but a wee lad. I thought they made me run faster, but I didn’t test that theory out with science.

 I am OLD!! :)

I tried but couldnt do it even with the DVD on the TV. I knew better than to try it a the theater. I would have been using my popcorn bag for another unsavory use. Blair witch was the same. :(

But cant do it. Not because of the content but because of the way the filming is done. Close in shots and quick movements, arrgh! I get motion sickness (yea I know I’m a pussy). I couldnt watch band of brothers either for the same reason.

The new BSG rocks. I remember the original too. The only thing that was good about it is that… wait for it… wait for it… it ended. It also appears many of the special effects techniques used in Firefly (another great show) were also used in the new BSG. I loved the tip of the hat in the movie that kicked off the first season of BSG–the Serenity flies by as Laura Roslin is meeting with her doctor.

Dirk Benedict.  Yeah, I like the cute ones.

I’m queing up the original Battlestar on DVD on my Netflix. Gotta have something to fill the time until Season Three comes out on DVD in April ’08. Any fellow junkies on Netflix that want to link as friends and share queue lists, just drop me a PM here and I’ll send you the link.

But hey, if your going to order BSG: Razor or BSG: Season Three and wouldn’t mind helping a fellow junkie (i.e. me) out, if you order it through this link for a good price and a small percent will kick back to me so I can cover op costs and get some giveaway schwag (i.e. Sigler’s books).

If you get a chance, watch Razor. It’s out on dvd and it gives the back story on the Pegasus. Also, it has a few old Toasters running around.

I too am also old enough to have seen the original when it first aired and I have to say that I am definitly a fan of both. I remember when the new one first aired I was eager to see what they would do with it. I was at first not eager to accept the changes to some of the characters that had been made but by the end of the mini series they all made sense and I loved them. The reimagining of the tale of bsg is wonderful.

Profile photo of Maia W

Well I’m old enough to, but don’t remember much about the original anymore. I’m about to get back into it on individual downloads since Season 3 of the retelling is indefinitely delayed coming out on DVD and I don’t have cable…

She may be a girl, but she’s not very girlie. In season 1&2 anyhow. I’ve not gotten into season 3. Somebody told me that the most recent season just got discounted… I may have to catch up.

So, perhaps one day I can watch the whole series on dvd and all shall be well in the world, until then, I think starbucks taste delicious!

Profile photo of Tracy Caraker

I used to watch the original when I was a kid. I loved it then. But the new series is much more provocative and the plot is much more complicated. I’m totally addicted!

I am too young to have seen the original. However I am enjoying the new series. It has grit, characters that are real people. Though it will be sad to see it go after the 4th season, it should end sooner rather then later. After all the out comes are either live or die.

Kill the fracking toasters.

Profile photo of Jim Corbett

I really enjoy the new version and I’m old enough to know the old version as well. Although the original is classic, the new one has better story lines. I have no problem with Starbuck being a chick either. However I think it is unfortunate that the show is ending after this season. But on the bright side at least it will have a mostly solid ending. Of course I say mostly because I’m sure they’ll end it with some sort of hanger in case they ever want to start it up again.

how come star buck is a girl now

Profile photo of Steven Boyd

i like the new version not old enough for the original

Profile photo of Gregg Anderson

…but the Classic was definitely “true” to the era in which it was created and aired.

I definitely miss the old skool toasters and cylon raiders.

Profile photo of Brad P. from NJ

I miss the Toasters, too. I love the throwback to the original show when Startbuck goes to save Helo and ends up in the museum with the War Memorial style setup.

The retelling is better, although I do miss the old-school Cylons.

Profile photo of Brad P. from NJ

One of the best science fiction series done, in both the classic and retelling formats. By taking the best of literary classics, science fiction and annoying robot dogs, these shows have drawn some of the largest ratings in quite a while.

Did you love the original series?

Do you love the new series?

Did the writers take a classic and make it tawdry by reworking it?

Why should Junkies like this show?
