From the timeline we can see that the Battle of Asteroid X7 takes place in 2557, and this battle is referenced in the very first Crypt episode as the one that Captain Williams and Commander Ellis ran from, which is the impetus for Ellis to be given command of the PUV James Keeling. The battle is also referenced in several other episodes and some of the main characters are revealed to have fought in the battle. In ep.3 we learn that Pvt. John Bennett received the Iron Star medal for his actions in the battle of X7. The events in the last episode of the Angel of Death storyarc depicts some of the intense fighting of that battle.

So uhh, long story short, The Crypt takes place about 125 years before The Rookie.
