and FIESTA!! is happening NOW, a week long PARTY with parades and arts and MUSIC and beer and more beer. okok, more like 10 days started this past friday, runs till this coming saturday. could you have imagined having the final four DURING fiesta......anyways........next book tour he needs to think about scheduling a couple of days stay here during fiesta, catch the river parade (the only one in the US) or the flambeau (the oldest night parade in the US if not the only one) and then there's the battle of flowers parade (as long or longer than the macy's parade) not to mention all the food and beer, art and beer, music and beer. then there's the folk life festival in june, but thats sun, beer, music, beer arts and crafts (and beer) a cold beer goes down real good this time of the year, but then there's the beer. and then there is sea world and fiesta texas (a six flags theme park). and then there's the missions and we must "Remember the ALAMO!!" oh and of course, there is the riverwalk, so spectacular and wonderful it has inspired other cities to develope their own. but then, i just call it home, san antonio, born and raised

Sorry, Dear Treed.  Your parade isn't the only night-time one and doesn't even come close to being the oldest night time parade.  We are happy that y'all down in Texas have taken our good ideas and interpreted them for yourselves.

The Saint Paul Winter Carnival has been celebrated since 1886 and we have a torchlight parade to mark the victory of Vulcanus Rex over good King Boreas and have had for 122 years.

Minneapolis (the wimps across the river who cling to summer like bed bugs to a fat kid) celebrates Aquatennial and they have a torchlight parade too.  quote from their page: The first Torchlight Parade was held during the very first Aquatennial in 1940, but back then, it was called the "Illuminated Evening Parade".

The idea of a lighted parade, now one of the premier events of Fiesta, was the brainchild of civil engineer Reynolds Andricks. Despite his insistence that he knew nothing about parades, he was elected to the Board of the Fiesta San Jacinto Association in 1948. His recollection of his first meeting: “I was astounded that so few people seemed interested in Fiesta. They didn’t think that they should add another parade.” He recommended that the ‘new’ parade take place at night and that it be called Fiesta Flambeau.

-been married a year, working in a child scare center while wife attended seminary in dallas
that was the year and nutcase shot up the battle of flowers parade. he'd shoot till one gun jammed and start with the next. then he shot himself in the head. we had brought a friend from school. damn....... if i had not wanted to avoid all the people getting to our seats, we would have been front row and center when he started shooting
