As much as I love to hog the glory for everything and claim (rightfully so!) that I invented most of the items that make civilization civilized, I probably can't corner the market on being a retard and/or TechTard. I believe many people can be TechTards. Does this convey an "Alpha" status? I don't think so, no more than being morbidly obese is going to give you a special place in the lineup of the Oakland Raiders. Some things are a badge of honor, and some things are just a cross to bear.
