I suspect you that already have given your status as a movie junkie.  If not, you should definitely check it out.  Intergalactic gladiators with the 1980's Black Hole, Flash Gordon cheesy feel.  Its definitely got bit of the flavor of Title fight and The Rookie in it as well.  You will love it.
