Re: Scott, you're a gun-tard...

The .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) (also referred to as the "9 mm Short", "9 mm Browning", "9 mm Kurz", "9 mm Corto", "9x17 mm") pistol cartridge is a rimless, straight-walled pistol cartridge developed by firearms designer John Browning. It was introduced in 1908 by Colt, and has been a popular self-defense cartridge ever since.

That's from the Wikipedia entry on the .380 round:

Re: Scott, you're a gun-tard...
Yes, technically the diameter is 9MM and it may have been called the "9MM Short" and the others at one time, but NOBODY calls it that in real life. It's a 380. In normal society, 9MM refers to the 9x19, or 9MM Luger, or 9MM Parabellum cartridge, the caliber that inspired the "wonder-nine's" of the 80's and 90's. High-capacity semi-auto's such as the Glock 19, or the Beretta 92F. Sure, you can make yourself feel better on the technicality, but make the edit for the print version, dude. Oh, and stop saying "clips" instead of "magazines". I think you're getting better about that one though! Hasta later, amigo

Re: Scott, you're a gun-tard...
Well I know relatively little about firearms except that I have ok targeting skills (most likely a carryover from archery). So I feel quite edumacated on the whole thing now, but honestly I don't think that I'd notice much difference in the course of the story. I might wonder about the interchangeability of the two terms seeing them in print (".380" & "9mm") but have never heard anyone discuss this at any length in "real life"... In other words, it's good to know the details, but somehting like this isn't a plot buster for me as a firearms non-expert. ------------ KnitWitch http://www.knitwitchzone.com

personally i find that the .380 or the 9mm are not ideal calibers to conquer the free world. the venerable 45ACP or my favorite, the 357SIG, are much more suited for this. just remember....gun control is hitting your target

Re: Scott, you're a gun-tard...
I personally prefer the .45 automatic. Match grade, preferably, but tha tis personal preference. And there are levels of "gun control" Level 1 - hit your target Level 2 - select the portion of the target to place the round. I went to level 2 with both rifle and pistol in college. Just remember that if you decide to come after me. Also, remember when goign to the Sand Diego Con, tha tI was in the city just before oyu. Watch over your shoulder.......
