Much in the same tradition of native american names, Hawaiian names tend to actually be sentences. My niece's middle name is Kamakama o' na lani which literally translates to 'gift of heaven'. But when speaking of King Kamehameha, you have to be specific as there were five King Kamehameha's! The one you mentioned, smut gremlin, is the first and greatest, as he united the five major islands into one cohesive kingdom.
Funny you mention Dragon Ball Z too. There is a large Japanese-American population in Hawai'i and I actually had to learn Japanese in high school to have a chance in the tourist industry. The term kamehameha in Dragon Ball Z is actually a sort of run on sentence. Where the Hawaiian version is pronounced Ka-meha-meha the Dragon ball version is kame-hame-ha. Literally that's turtle-destruction-wave. Very different from the Hawaiian version but easily lost in translation.
