George RR Martin has made one of the classic mistakes of epic fantasy: he's dragging this story out towards infinity. Yes, the quality is magnificent. At least book one was. I refuse to touch the rest of the series until he's finished. Look at what happened with Jordan! Both he and Goodkind drug out there series to ridiculous lengths and Robert frakkin' died!!! There's no good reason you can't encapsulate a good story into a trilogy. Write a second one if you have to. And it certainly shouldn't take you multiple years to put out one volume of it. Martin has been infuriating in that respect.
I adored Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series, but have not checked out his fantasy books. Are they of comparable quality?
Thank you, George Hrab, for composing and performing the acoustic version of brainsbodyboth. Humorous yet poignant, and you gave me a theme song. I miss Ally <sigh>

Guess you should have made that series a bit shorter, or broken it up a bit. See rant above. Talk about milking the cow. Grrrr.

Make sure to read Enders Shadow if you enjoy Ender's Game. Same plot thread but from a totally different perspective so it becomes a completely different story. Amazing work.
Also check out the Tales of Alvin Maker. Not really SciFi, but still quality stuff.

I must agree that these books are the flagstone in any fantasy/horror/sci fi collection. Stephen King's Dark Tower series is just so vast, and so well done it's hard to picture my library without it. Not to mention the direct tie ins with other King fiction.
Whether it's direct sister stories (The Talisman/Black House) or just the subtle things that tie almost all of King's works into the Dark Tower. (Insomnia, Salems' Lot, The Stand, it goes on and on..)
While our FDO may run us all under tread in plaid army tanks, rest assured that my Dark Tower collection will be joining me in the Sigler-run internment camps.

2nd mini series called V-The Final Battle with Michael Ironside? Never knew those were novels. Could have sworn those were written for the screen.

I just finished his trilogy: The Eyes of God, THe Devils Armor and The Sword of Angels. Good books. My husband said they depicted the way Vadar should have slipped into madness and the dark side, unlike what happened in the first three Star Wars movies. I agree. Only if you read them, you really don't start the slide into darkness until the second book, at least where it really become apparent. The third book is the cincher. They are a really good read and I would definantly recommend them.
