My 16 year-old is a soccer/sports/movie kid... the 12 year old is into Anime (a big improvement over the Princess days). Hard to suggest without knowing their temperment. Have you asked her for ideas? One fun party we've done for both girls was a fondue dinner/sleepover. Cheese and then chocolate fondue with several of their girlfriends, rented DVDs and they stayed up all night.
