So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....

And more importantly, where does our FDO stand? McCain, Obama, or Clinton? I'm a one issue man. Anyone tough on Islam-o-fascists has got my vote (McCain, duhhh). At first I wasn't sure that I liked the Old Guy, but I took this Newsweek politic quiz, and I matched McCain at like 95%... and this was when there were still 10+ candidates in the running. If you don't know a whole lot about the guy, check him out, you maybe surprised. One interesting tidbit (that have a lot to do with the election) I learned, was that his grandfather and McCain's Grandfather and father were the first pair of father/son Four-Star admirals in the Navy. I think it'd like HIM to answer the phone at 3am, whatcha think?

I like old people, I belong to that club, so McCain is o.k.   Hilary is good, I like that FDO used her name in Nocturnal, and I am also a member of the estrogen club.  Obama is from a normal type family, no oil millions dictating policy, and he is cute, cute is good.  I used to always like Mr Nader, he had his brain set to help the world, not line his pockets, what happened to him?  What we need is leader who is street smart, well spoken, educated, diplomatic, empathetic, likable, honest, ethical, moral,  who is not bias, egotistical, vain, or pompus.  One who does not cater to special interests and is willing to admit to the frailty and inhumanity of past leadership and champion the positive idealistic goals of the people......... Where's that person?  we need a jigsaw canditate, one peice from this person, a bit of that one, and cut out all the bad stuff.  But once we get a pres. then who are all the others we have to wade thru that cause all the trouble in the government?  owch, my head hurts...

Why choose the lesser of several evils.  IMHO, all politicians at that level are scum. Anyone willing to do what it takes to make it to the upper echelon of politics has compromised himself/herself to an irredeemable degree.

Re: So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....

I have to make a comment on the post referencing "the lesser of several evils". Why choose? Let me ask you this... Would you prefer the greater evil to win? If you wait for the "perfect" candidate to come along, then you'll be waiting forever. In your utopia, politicians would be humble, wise, and propelled by the people to a positions of power. Sadly, this isn't the world we live in. The power we do have as individuals is a vote, and to expess your opinions and positions to the public (a blog?). Of course there is also the option of running for public office yourself. You know, fix the broken system from the inside?

To vote for who YOU want to represent you. Not voting removes whatever small influence you do have. One vote might not make a difference in the presidential election, but by telling others that voting doesn't matter, or that there is no one worth voting for can certainly have a ripple effect.

A quick note on Obama... Did you know his middle name is Hussein? Crazy, huh? Did you know that his formative years were spent in a Islamic elementary school, called a "medrassa". Among other things he was taught the Koran and Sharia law. This was in Jakarta, Indonesia where is stepfather was working. Strangely, Barack was even listed in the school's records as a Muslim, which he says was a recording error. To be fair this Madrassa did have students of different faiths, and wasn't considered radical like many other schools in the area.

"Barack Obama’s associations include ties to far left billionaire George Soros and others who claim solidarity with the Nation of Islam. Most Obama supporters are likely unaware of this or do not recognize the grave danger of these facts."

Other than that stuff, and a few other interesting facts, I like the guy. Hell, who isn't for change and hope!

I tried to stay off this post because I knew it was going to turn into a screed and yes, it has.
Hussein is one of the most common names in the world.  Maybe not in East Bodunk, Illiniois, but in the rest of the world.  Who gives a rat's ass if Obama's middle name is Hussein or if he went to a religious school.
I'm not going to vote for the man, but his being or not being muslim has NOTHING to do with my decision and if it has anything to do with yours, you need to ask yourself why.
I don't care if a person is a Catholic, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist or Athiest.  What I care about is their integrity and if they are going to put the good of the country before their own ego.
I live one mile from the Xcel Center in St. Paul.  Since new security laws ensure that protests and protesters aren't allowed within 2 miles of El Jefe the War Criminal (Bush), I wonder if the feds are going to put me up in a nice hotel in the burbs.  I'm still thinking about climbing up on my roof and painting "Jail all the murdering MoFo's" in neon paint.  The ABC helicopter jocks might enjoy that.

Re: So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....

I believe my past played a role in my strong feelings about voting and government/politics in general. When I was 18 I got in trouble with the law. Felony offence (anabolic steroids ITD). A black mark on my record so dark and deep that from that moment forward (till recently) I would be haunted by it. Thankfully, I didn't go to jail or serve any time, but I did get 5 years probation. What I didn't realize at the time... was what having a felony on your record as an adult, in the professional world, will do to your employability and career options. Hell, when I was 18 anything that didn't include bars and hardcore felon types sounded go to me. So, I was happy to plead out when I heard that I wouldn't be going to the slammer (Angola was a real option for the judge... the Farm, ya know?). I could put all this foulness behind me, right? Nope. Back to my point... I wasn't allowed to vote from 1998 till 2005, when I had the charges expunged. Thankfully I qualified for a relatively new program called "Louisiana Non-Violent First Time Offender Program". In the court room with me during my expungement hearing was a 55 year old African American woman who 35 years ago was arrested for underage drinking and when caught she ran from the policeman. Apparently back then in the 9th ward of New Orleans the police could get a little rough. She was charged with resisting arrest (a felony). Since has been married, had children, her oldest had children, she completed college, then nursing school. After all of that she was denied a nursing license because of that event 35 years ago. I on the other hand don't kids or a family, but I did get a political science degree and finished graduate school with a masters in P.S. The moral of the story is that sometimes you don't appreciate what you have till it's no longer available to you.

Anyway, I've went way off track. It's late and I am just writing to write. Chapter 20-22 of Infected kicked ass. I'm almost at the end of The Rookie, then I'll be waiting for the next thing like the rest of you.

Adios for now.

Mc B   I'm not big into politics having seen my share from the inside but stop me when you've heard enough, we're in Iraq, our soldiers are being maimed and killed, gas prices are killing us at home, economy is down the shitter and the government is big brothering us at every turn, when does this start getting scary.  Sorry for trippin on this, especially on such a great site but it's not good,

Some things need to be shared, I wish that more real-life lessons were made available.   I am sure everyone who reads that post will either thank God they didn't get caught doing whatever the illegal thing was they were doing and vow never to do it again... or.....realise this was something to really wake them up, slap them in the face and think about, before they do something that could change their whole life.    What's sad is that what is reasonable, right and just, often has little to do with what can happen to someone that has gotten into trouble.   *I am the Rear Admiral but Sigler gives the Orders*

Re: So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....

Just a quick note....

I regularly hear people compare President Bush with Hitler, or call him a war criminal, and I wonder what world these people live on. I originally supported Bush, and since 2004 have come to conclusion that he has made some serious mistakes. Hell, he may even be a BAD president, but a war criminal or comparable to Hitler (a man who had 10+ million people killed). I think it's fair to say that Bush is NOT a devious malicious person. Has he made some seriously bad judgment calls? Sure. Is he EVIL, no way. We have had some pretty big scandals in the executive branch through out the years. Other presidents have exhibited extremely questionable judgment. I could list the scandal and the president each belongs to, but I said this would be a quick note....

Re: So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....

Maybe not. Mass murderer?  I think so. Here's a man who sent thousands of people to their deaths just to get 1 man. Well, Saddam died a long time ago and now Bush is too stubborn to just get our boys out or too stoopid to figure out how to do it while looking like a hero. He wanted to 1 up his dad and 9-11 was just what he needed. To the rest of America, 9-11 was horrendous. To W, it was an excuse. OK, Bush said "Mission accomplished". Where the hell are our troops, then? Why are they still dieing for a country that never wanted them there? When will the last American die because of this Presidents ego?

Re: So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....

I'll grant you that President Bush is not the smartest man to be our Commander-and-chief. He may very well be one of the least intelligent. I also believe that he has gotten to where he is in life due to nepotism and his father‘s influence. I have read all about him and his past, including his “pre-saved” years. I am aware of his poor business acumen, and lack of success (in almost every facet of his life). I have read about the favors and advice he received from the Saudi government and the bad choices he made by appointing the wrong people to powerful positions (Rumsfeld, Chainey, Tenet, etc...). Plus getting rid of some of his better advisers (Powell, Ashcroft, etc..). All of this may make him a BAD president and a bad leader, but does it make him a war criminal, Hitler re-incarnate, or the devil himself? I think not. From everything I’ve read and heard I believe that President Bush is a decent man, and a Patriot who is over his head and advised poorly by people desperate for power.

Re: So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....
As time goes on we will learn the depths to which this administration sunk and all the nasty little things that were done to our country and others......also, isn't it the "winning side" in a war or an invasion, who get to pick the war criminals?  If Hitler had won, then the leaders of the "loosing side" would be rounded up and deemed war criminals.
That's the nasty part......

Re: So let's talk politics- Where do you stand....

to start: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030128-19.html
read this before you say anything about the motives of the war in iraq
secondly: if George Bush is stupid, who did you vote for in 2004 or 2000? George Bush got better grades at Yale(he also attended Harvard) than Kerry. He did better on his college placment and officers exams than gore or kerry
third: "mission accomplished". that banner was requested by the commanding officer of that  ship, where Bush was speaking to congradulate the crew on the completion of their mission in the actual "war" in Iraq(which lasted only two weeks by the way, what going on now i like to call the "conflict' in Iraq).  even if you took it to mean that the war was over IT WAS! if you took it to mean one of our  goals was met, MANY WERE!
whew that was a lot of typing...

-i said nothing concerning his crimminality, but he has abused his position, he has lied, he has allowed others to take blame where it is his due, he has forgiven wrong doing of his staff and supporters while vilifying those who point to the truth, he's the president and talks like he grew up in the sticks with little or no education, he had no business running for president much less winning (or should i say stealing) the presidency (thank you brother jeb) all clinton was guilty of was not keeping his pants zipped and he got impeached, bush lied (he was not misinformed) we went into iraq, people died and continue to die, my son will have troubles due to his tour in iraq and he wasn't even infantry. there has too much wrong doing by this presidency, he is at fault, not his aides or his advisors. him, it is HIS presidency, not theirs, the fault s his for having the wrong people in positions of power and his fault for taking their advise and believing their lies. his fault for not having things double triple checked and his fault for not standing up saying it is his fault. truman said it best, the buck stops here... if he is such a patriot then he needs to stand up and admit to his follies and take what ever comes. all politicians try to weedle outof responsibility for their actions, both parties, clinton is a prime example, but he finnally admitted the truth, so can bush, but he won't, can't, doesn't know how. ok enough of my rant. I am from TEXAS, he was a bad governor he's been a bad president, 'nuff said
