Junkie Con 2011?

Due to tons of traffic on Twitter regarding a possible "Junkie Con," and the fact someone (ah-hem @sadock) seems to think I'm in charge or organizing said event, I think we should spend a little time talking about this.

First off, location? Somewhere central to both coasts would be nice, but I keep hearing "Las Vegas" as a potential site, although Denver is probably more centrally located.

Secondly, besides insane amounts of alcohol, Siglerism prayer meetings and general supplication to the Future Dark Overlord, what kinds of panels/events would there be? What would you like to do at Junkie-Con? Start brainstorming people. Otherwise, it will just turn into a massive party (not that I'm against that).

Thirdly, what should be the timing? Balticon is end of May, Dragon*Con is Labor Day Weekend. So what is a good time of year to have it?

But I think Vegas will be easier/cheaper to get to. Travelocity has a round-trip non-stop from Atlanta to Vegas for under $300 (depending on days you fly, etc.) I could do that.

But if we pick the date soon enough, I can just start saving my pennies (and nickels, etc.)

Do we have an idea of how long our trip would be? I think Vegas has cheaper rates during the week (that is, not on the weekend). But are we talking something like a 3 or 4-day weekend, or something midweek? Is it too early to figure that kind of thing out?

It's more reliable than tweeting. I suggest whoever is organizing pick several dates and submit them to her. It sounds like Vegas is the best compromise for location from what I'm seeing. Another option might be to try and do it on one of Scott's tours. I doubt that would work if you'd want him to stay for multiple days though. Do we have a volunteer to organize this thing yet? I don't think Paul is actually going to do it.

- LOTS of hotels near one another
- solid package deals for said hotel w/ flights
- gambling
- the whole prostitution thing
- did I mention you can drink on the streets?
- the town NEVER stops. EVER!
- hit any buffet and you can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the same damn time
- alcohol

The more I look at hotel prices in SF, the more Vegas is looking like a better Con location choice. OMG hotel rooms are wicked expensive in SF!!!
