You just type option-o, or shift-option-O, for the lower- and upper-case versions, respectively.

Yet another reason windows blows. Different character behavior based on your keyboard? Lame.

Microsoft and Apple don't make identical keyboards. What else are they supposed to do if they need the functionality and they don't have the requisite key? What? Do you actually expect them to have the same keys?!? That's crazy talk.
And, btw, I don't have Windows. Apple simply doesn't make an ergonomic keyboard, so I have to use a Microsoft one with my iMac. The only drawback I've found thus far is that it doesn't have an eject key. Since the only reason I'd use that is to put my puker to sleep with keystrokes (and thereby program a mouse button to do the same) I find the ergonomic gain well worth the trade off.

So you're using a Microsoft Natural Keyboard on your Mac? I gues that makes sense; the Windows-key is probably the substitute for an option key, is that right? I misunderstood. I thought that was behavior using a microsoft keyboard with windows.

I won't be going back to Windows anytime in the foreseeable future. I laughed my ass off when I saw Windows 7. Many elements are total rip offs of OSX, but they're like OSX lite or something.
