And a well-deserved break. In case you haven't already listened, the Nerdist had a couple podcasts with the new Doctor and crew. I've really been a fan since Doctor number 9, but I remember watching on my tiny Black & white TV in my college apartment when the Doctor was Tom Baker (I think they were re-runs, I can't be THAT old!)

I hear that my name will be mentioned in Nocturnal! Pre-order a copy TODAY!
From what I've heard, it sounds like the BBC/STARZ production of Torchwood is trying to do the series right. But we won't really know until it actually hits the small screen. I seem to remember something about episodes coming out in July...

it's ME that's not that old.... wait, I think I might be exactly that old. Yep, first series was 1963. At least I'm in full color!

JULY?!! wow! I don't have cable so I hope it's offered eleswhere ... it was a great show! Did they keep any of the original cast?
Torchwood seemed like the most adult of the 3 related shows ... then Doctor Who then the Sara Jane Adventures ... with the passing of Elizabeth Sladen ... the torch ;) goes to these other two shows to keep the awesome britt sci-fi alive!! I hope its comparable to the original and isnt cancelled before it's time like so many other American sci-fi shows ...
I am gonna have to go rewatch the series to date in preparation of the new STARZ show !!
I am SO far behind in my message board reading I may never catch up ... I wish there was a weekly summary thread LOL ... happy friday the 13th everyone ... ttfn ...
I hear that my name will be mentioned in Nocturnal! Pre-order a copy TODAY!
John Barrowman, Eve Miles, and the guy who played Reese are supposed to be back for the new show. Not sure if they will stay the whole series, or just launch the American chapter and move on. New country, new team, same old apocalypse.

They also just released the Torchwood: Web of Lies app that has the first episode of the companion to Miracle Day. It's a motion comic but has Eve Myles, John Barrowman and Eliza Dushku voice acting the characters!(iTunes link)
...but I had serious doubts/fears about the new Torchwood when they said it was being made in the US - not because I thought the US would automatically cock it up, but because Doctor Who is a UK institution. Also, the Welsh countryside really lends itself to Torchwood's brand of dark fantasy and I just couldn't picture it being set anywhere else.
The first thing I noticed about Miracle Day was that the story itself is very 'American' - particularly (from the promo material) the idea of one of the central characters (won't give spoilers!) becoming a kind of evangelical motivational speaker. Not that the 'cult of celebrity' thing is a strictly American phenomenon, but it comes across as more believeable than if the story was set somewhere like the UK or Australia. I think throwing the Torchwood team into a very American situation, rather than trying to pull off a traditional UK Torchwood story in an American setting, was a good idea and makes all the difference. I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode and it's shaping up to be an excellent series.
That said, I have some reservations about the sustainability of the show after the Miracle Day series ends. I don't know what their long-term plans are, if any, but if it was to lose the Welsh stars it would risk becoming just another X-Files/Men in Black/Area 51-type show and IMHO, there are already far too many of them. Even *with* the Welsh stars, it still kind of had that vibe. Here's hoping the American audience takes to the UK elements of the show, so they aren't written out in the future.

Some of the gritty edge has been removed and it feels like a much more expensive and polished production. I'm not sure how I will feel about part two, but so far I'm really enjoying it.

I love Doctor Who and am eagerly waiting for the completion of series 6. I'm watching Torchwood on Netflix streaming and am only into series 2 now. That't probably a good thing since I don't have Starz. Perhaps by the time I get current, the wait won't be too long before Miracle Day reaches Netflix.
Being part welsh (my fathers side is Welsh and I'm a proud welsh heritage kinda guy despite my cockney accent, I'm wearing my Welsh rugby shirt even now) loosing Gwen would be devistating and would just lead to complete americanisation of torchwood which on the whole is the adult version of Doctor Who (don't forget Torchwood is a anogram of Doctor Who). The line of "If your england has to offer then I don't have hight hopes for him" Reply - "I'm Welsh" has made the series for me,
I love torchwood and all things Doctor Who, I think the calaboration between BBC America and the normal BBC is a match made in heaven due to the funding it gives and the story telling of Mr. Russell T Davis who is simply the english Sigler :)
I hope in continues and that no major players get killed, I really hope we don't loose Gwen who is a massively enjoyable character like we lost Yanto (proper Welsh valley name) in The Children of Earth.
