Firefly: Not quite scary (except for the Reavers) but certainly groundbreaking
I put this on my list of Junkie-must-see-TV because it's innovative, just like Siggie. He put American Football in space with aliens and and a drug-running mob... Firefly puts the best in the tradition of the Western in space with 6 shot laser pistols and cargo-rustlers. There's even rumours that Serenity 2 (the sequel to the movie made by the characters in the TV show) is now in the works.

I will agree that Firefly was innovative and a damn fun show, but I BSG is my top choise for junkie TV. In the Galactica universe not only do you have what is mostly realistic technology, other then the jump drive and the lack of good heat shielding on the Rapters most of the hardware is very close to existant tech. You also have a kick as army of pissed off machines trying to drive the human race to extinction. What could be better TV for Junkies then 99.99999% of humanity wiped out. And on top of that they are not afraid to show good bloody deaths.

I saw Serenity a while ago when it just came out and i remembered liking it, but i recently saw it again, and it did not cease to amaze me. the dialogue is hysterical, the action is adrenaline pumping, and the overall feel of the movie is fun. i can definitely feel the "western in space" element in it. a sequel would be great, as long as they did it right. i wouldn't want them to fuck it up, like most sequels do. I have yet to see Firefly, but I have wanted to for a while. I just haven't had the time. regardless you can count me in as a vote for Firefly as a Junkie must see.

I adored Firefly! It cracked me up to hear them cussing Chinese. The dialogue and story lines were enthralling. BUTTT, since it's not on anymore (*sob*), I have to go with BattleStar Galactica. I love that show! Can't wait for the next season to come out. "Your tears are a waste of good suffering" ~ Pinhead

Firefly is an absolute must see for Junkies. Watch the series then Serenity and you'll be screaming at Fox for destroying the show. I love it when a channel starts a new series then plays the first episodes out of order. Dirty Bastards!

Fox tried their hardest to kill this show - in fact, they're still trying (see http://whedonesque.com/comments/14429#more). Five years later & we've got a movie (maybe two soon!) and the fan base just keeps growing. Started out small but it just keeps spreading like an Infection... "Firefly puts the best in the tradition of the Western in space with 6 shot laser pistols and cargo-rustlers." One of the great things about Firefly was they used regular guns. The one laser pistol in the series, a gun called the Lassiter, was the only laser pistol in creation and a collecters item. One of my favorite lines in the show was by Zoe after Wash commented on a laser gun. He said " what is this a sci fi novel" She replied " Honey , you live on a spaceship" Joss Wheton wrote some of the best dialog ever in that show. Wish the Fox exec that canned it caught a terminal case of the crabs after that decision.

If you want more Firefly, join the "Firefly for Firefighters" campaign. We're buying special edition DVD's of Serenity and Firefly box sets and donating them to firehouses across the country. How does this help get more Firefly? Universal already said that the 2nd movie depends upon sales of the special edition DVD. I'm desperate and will snatch at straws. I'm like that. Go out right this instant and buy the DVDs. Get Serenity, too, while you're out there. Do not pass Go. -- The ways of the Lord are often dark but never pleasant.

Firefly is one of my favorite TV series of all time (next to BSG) and Serenity still manages to entertain me after watching it many times.

I knew there were explosions, gunshots, but I think I just focused on "spaceship = non powder explosive weapons". Wasn't there one other laser... "Heart of Gold"... which the cold-hearted baby-daddy had a laser mounted on the floaty car? ------- Whole Lot of Nonsense PodCast - http://www.wholelotofnonsense.org UUCSH Sunday Services - http://uucsh.libsyn.com Follow Me - http://www.twitter.com/bpende Pownce on Me - http://www.pownce.com/bpende
