Battlestar Galactica - Both Classic & Retelling
One of the best science fiction series done, in both the classic and retelling formats. By taking the best of literary classics, science fiction and annoying robot dogs, these shows have drawn some of the largest ratings in quite a while. Did you love the original series? Do you love the new series? Did the writers take a classic and make it tawdry by reworking it? Why should Junkies like this show?

The retelling is better, although I do miss the old-school Cylons.

I miss the Toasters, too. I love the throwback to the original show when Startbuck goes to save Helo and ends up in the museum with the War Memorial style setup. ------- Whole Lot of Nonsense PodCast - http://www.wholelotofnonsense.org UUCSH Sunday Services - http://uucsh.libsyn.com Follow Me - http://www.twitter.com/bpende Pownce on Me - http://www.pownce.com/bpende

...but the Classic was definitely "true" to the era in which it was created and aired. I definitely miss the old skool toasters and cylon raiders.

I really enjoy the new version and I'm old enough to know the old version as well. Although the original is classic, the new one has better story lines. I have no problem with Starbuck being a chick either. However I think it is unfortunate that the show is ending after this season. But on the bright side at least it will have a mostly solid ending. Of course I say mostly because I'm sure they'll end it with some sort of hanger in case they ever want to start it up again.

I am too young to have seen the original. However I am enjoying the new series. It has grit, characters that are real people. Though it will be sad to see it go after the 4th season, it should end sooner rather then later. After all the out comes are either live or die. Kill the fracking toasters.

I used to watch the original when I was a kid. I loved it then. But the new series is much more provocative and the plot is much more complicated. I'm totally addicted! "Your tears are a waste of good suffering" ~ Pinhead

She may be a girl, but she's not very girlie. In season 1&2 anyhow. I've not gotten into season 3. Somebody told me that the most recent season just got discounted... I may have to catch up. ------- Whole Lot of Nonsense PodCast - http://www.wholelotofnonsense.org UUCSH Sunday Services - http://uucsh.libsyn.com Follow Me - http://www.twitter.com/bpende Pownce on Me - http://www.pownce.com/bpende

Well I'm old enough to, but don't remember much about the original anymore. I'm about to get back into it on individual downloads since Season 3 of the retelling is indefinitely delayed coming out on DVD and I don't have cable... ------------ KnitWitch

I too am also old enough to have seen the original when it first aired and I have to say that I am definitly a fan of both. I remember when the new one first aired I was eager to see what they would do with it. I was at first not eager to accept the changes to some of the characters that had been made but by the end of the mini series they all made sense and I loved them. The reimagining of the tale of bsg is wonderful.

If you get a chance, watch Razor. It's out on dvd and it gives the back story on the Pegasus. Also, it has a few old Toasters running around.

I'm queing up the original Battlestar on DVD on my Netflix. Gotta have something to fill the time until Season Three comes out on DVD in April '08. Any fellow junkies on Netflix that want to link as friends and share queue lists, just drop me a PM here and I'll send you the link. But hey, if your going to order BSG: Razor or BSG: Season Three and wouldn't mind helping a fellow junkie (i.e. me) out, if you order it through this link for a good price and a small percent will kick back to me so I can cover op costs and get some giveaway schwag (i.e. Sigler's books). ------------ KnitWitch http://www.knitwitchzone.com

Re: Battlestar Galactica - Both Classic & Retelling
The new BSG rocks. I remember the original too. The only thing that was good about it is that... wait for it... wait for it... it ended. It also appears many of the special effects techniques used in Firefly (another great show) were also used in the new BSG. I loved the tip of the hat in the movie that kicked off the first season of BSG--the Serenity flies by as Laura Roslin is meeting with her doctor.

When they approached Lorne Greene to play Adama they had to explain asteroids to him. He thought they were something you got from sitting in the saddle to long! :)
