The original Hellraiser' soundtrack - that is before the one they actually used - was by a band called Coil. It's apparently what Clive Barker wanted to use but the studio blocked it because it was too damn scary. I haven't heard it for years, but it was scarier than all the Hellraiser movies put together.

Another great sci fi movie theme was John Barry's Main Title from 'The Black Hole'. Epic stuff.
