She was rather stupid, but I was considerably disturbed about how flat out nonchalant Murrey was over pretty much every decision made, no matter how nasty, for the entirely wrong reasons. Seems to me like he'd have been willing to let a lot of people die just to keep in his position of power. The scenes we saw from his point of view, the way he was thinking seemed that he cared little for the actual events, only for how these events allowed him to get into the good graces with the president. Like, how when Vanessa told him to stop fucking around, he cooly pulls out the guilt card and says that because someone died (due to the methods they were using at the time), her argument had no validity. Even as he says this, he's mostly gloating in his head about how he got one over her, so he obviously didn't give a shit about his soldier dying, either, he just used it for an advantage. I mean sure, everything /ended up/ going well, but they seemed all too eager to take the 'hard decision' at every possible opportunity, without even spending more than a few seconds considering if there's any possibility of an action that doesn't involve dozens/hundreds/thousands dying or people dying in horrible torture. and I was under the impression that if things DID go to shit from his gung-ho methods, and it turns out they made a wrong choice, Murrey would cover his ass first and leave everyone else to take the blame. *shrugs*. He just seemed a bit /too/ amoral, willing to justify any action with 'It's necessary, so I'm not to blame', or flat out not giving a shit in the first place. and I sympthised a bit more with the dull chick for at least having the balls (hurr) to stand up to him. I was rather pissed that at the end it looks like he managed to suck up to the president enough to keep his comfy job practically controlling the president for the fifth president straight. To be honest, Murrey was the character I disliked more than anyone else in the entire book, if it wasn't obvious already. I'd be scared as hell if he was actually in power, because he obviously doesn't give a shit about anything but his own position, and god help you if you get in his way.
