FridayFix • One-Star Reviews

ARealGirl and I were lucky enough to be invited by our buddy Jonathan Maberry‘s “Writers Coffeehouse” event at Mysterious Galaxy Books in San Diego. Lots of hungry writers looking for ways to improve their craft and find a way into the biz. One of the questions that came up was, “How do you handle negativity about you or your works on social media?”

http://media.blubrry.com/scottsigler/media.libsyn.com/scottsigler/133_FridayFix__One_Star_Reviews.mp3

That’s something we know quite a bit about. From the early days of my writing career where I made the mistake of engaging with unhappy readers, to our current attitude of “let it roll,” our philosophy of how to react has evolved quite a bit. In this podcast, ARealGirl and spend about 30 minutes talking about what we think is the “correct” way to handle such issues, and we give some guidance on what can happen to creatives if they choose to spray their oh-so-important opinion all over the internets.

THE CHAMPION Episode #33

The Krakens are 11-0 and have clinched a playoff berth. But, a cheap-shot from Yalla the Biter knocked Quentin out cold, giving the Ionath quarterback a concussion. Now Quentin’s health status must be determined by league doctors before he is allowed to play in the regular season — or, possibly, in the playoffs. Will Quentin line up for the Orange and the Black this week, or will one of the backups lead the team against the Buddha City Elite?

THE CHAMPION Episode #31

After a bye week, the Krakens remain undefeated at 7-0, and head into a critical matchup against the To Pirates. For the last few weeks of the season, Quentin has been blackmailed by Jonathan Sandoval, sports reporter and agent of the Creterakian Ministry of Religion. Sandoval has threatened to tell the CMR the real size of the Church of Quentin Barnes, a number so high the CMR would immediately order Quentin’s execution.

Damn you, CHAMPION Episode 29!

Even after doing this week in and week out for a decade, sometimes technology can still slither up behind you and sink its fangs deep into your tuchas. That’s what happened to us with THE CHAMPION Episode #29. We still don’t know what happened.

New cover for ALIVE? Whaaaa?

So you get that book deal with a big publisher, they work closely with you on a cover, and then, boom, three months from publication they change it? Why would they do that? How does that work? Does it screw up branding? Advertising? All previous marketing efforts? How much say does the author get? Watch the vid to find out.

THE CHAMPION Episode #29

The Krakens enter the by week undefeated, 7-0 and in sole possession of first place in the Planet Division. Good thing they have the week off, as Quentin is still recovering from the broken collarbone he suffered last week against the D’Oni Ceolocanths. As the Krakens return from that game, Yolanda and Whykor the Aware are finishing up their investigation — who is the Zoroastrian Guild spy?

THE CHAMPION Episode #28

GFL commissioner Rob Froese informed Quentin that someone aboard the Touchback was sending messages to the Zoroastrian guild, messages that coincided with lethal terrorist attacks. To find this culprit, Frose embedded his assistant Whykor the Aware and reporter Yolanda Davenport aboard the Touchback, under the guise of doing a feature story on Quentin. As this off-the field drama plays out, the Krakens kicks off against the D’Oni Ceolocanths. Kopor the Climber is the starting fullback, to replace Becca Montagne, who has moved to 3rd-string QB. Can Kopor finally step up and give Quentin the pass protection he needs, or will the merciless Ceolocanth pass rush send Quentin to an early grave?
