If you’ve never seen “speed painting” videos before, they are a hallmark of the new era of digital art and social media. Here’s one from the “Geek-A-Week” feature where artist Len Peralta made me King Joffrey Baratheon (the best character ever in GAME OF THRONES. Three minutes to see how a piece of art comes [...]Continue Reading →
Waitaminute ... Scarlet Johansson gets nekkid?
So, you’ve got Scarlett Johansson driving a van around the streets of Glasgow, picking up single young men and taking them back to her place for a bit of the ol’ hanky panky. How could that possibly be a bad thing? Introduce a vat of random black goo, that’s how. Duh. It’s like Screenwriting 101, really.

Oh no! He speaks against the party line!
I catch a lot of crap because I am a fan of Bud Light. All you hoity-toity beer snobs lecture me nonstop on drinking “water” or “shit beer,” etc.
On every book tour, it’s the same damn thing: “Why don’t you let me buy you a real beer?” Or, “What, are you still in college?” Follow [...]Continue Reading →

Boom! I say, I say, boom!
This is one of the best feelings in the biz, people — sending off a completed manuscript to an editor. We’re ballparking Summer 2015 for this release, but I can’t say for sure until the editor at Del Rey does his thing.
This is effectively the final draft, as he [...]Continue Reading →
Junkies, sometimes teams update their helmets. Your favorite NFL team’s lid has likely gone through a few changes: some are dramatic, some are subtle. The Ionath Krakens are considering a helmet re-design for the 2686 season, and team owner Gredok the Splithead has decided to leave it up to you, the fan.
We’ve had problems with overzealous fans “stuffing the ballot box” in previous polls, so you have to have a registered profile to vote. You get one vote. We’ll check IPs if we have to (but we don’t want to). We love you all, but you’re crazy with the ballot-box stuffing, so get your one vote in and let the fans decide!
STEPS TO VOTE:
1) Sign into your account on this site (or create one by clicking here).
2) Put a comment on this post with one of the following choices: Current, Modified #1 or Modified #2
We’ll close the poll at midnight Eastern time on Sunday, June 22. The winning design will be included in the book’s text. Boom!
GoooooOOOO KRAKENS!Continue Reading →

All four GFL novels available on iTunes/Audible/Amazon
That’s right, Junkies, THE ROOKIE is finally available as a full-length, unabridged, ad-free audiobook. You can get the whole honkin’ 17-hour audiobook and enjoy the smashmouth scifi, the gridiron gore, and the quest for the ring (GFL championship ring, that is).
ALL FOUR GFL AUDIOBOOKS
Just in time for you to bone up before THE CHAMPION hits in September, 2014.
• THE ROOKIE
• THE STARTER
• THE ALL-PRO
• THE MVP
• THE CHAMPION (Sept. 2014).
ALREADY GOT THE ROOKIE? THEN LEAVE A REVIEW, MANG!
It’s brand-new, so the reviews at Audible and iTunes are looking a bit bare. If you listened to the story already and don’t want to experience this gritty coming-of-age story a second time, do us a favor and leave a review (or two, or in all three places). Reviews are author gold and one of the best ways to show your love for a work.
As Scott is busy furiously packing up Empty Set Studios North, we stole a few moments to record another edition of Inside Empty Set, where we talk about things pertinent to the business side of our business.
This one’s all about convention season: which ones we’ll be attending and why. Also some dissection of Scott’s past strategy vs. our current plan.
This year we’ll attend: Balticon, San Diego Comic Con, Dragon*Con, SiglerFest & ReadCon in Greeley, CO.
Want to hear us talk about something in particular in future episodes of Inside Empty Set? Please drop us a line, or leave a note in the comments.

The world of Hunter Hunterson in your hot little hands
So, you wanna pull a ticket on a methed-out, parole-jumping goblin? You want to stomp that undead ass? You want to whack a werewolf, mash a mage, destroy a devil, lay the smacketh-down on a sasquatch and more? Now you can (just remember to watch your privates if you square off against the rabid unicorns).
You and yours can play Storium, a cool new storytelling game that has one (of many) fictional settings in “Slayerville,” the hometown of Hunter Hunterson and his kin. Here’s how they list it on their site:
This is a stretch goal for the Storium Kickstarter, which involves some of our best author buddies such as J.C. Hutchins, Mur Lafferty, Chuck Wendig and more. Check out their Kickstarter page here, and/or watch the video above that explains how the game works.Continue Reading →
Contains Scott's first vampire story: "Hippo"
The second book in Jonathan Maberry’s V-WARS series, BLOOD & FIRE cranks up the carnage to “11,” thanks in no small part to my story “Hippo.” Yes, this is my first vampire story, and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever read. This delicious & twisted tale will leave you hungry for more (or sick to the stomach, really kind of depends on your tastes … ).
It’s been one year since a virus triggered junk DNA and people all over the world started changing. Becoming something else. Craving blood. It’s been ten months since the word ‘vampire’ stopped being something from old monster stories and Hollywood movies. It’s been six months since our world and theirs erupted into war. It’s been two months since an uneasy peace was signed. It’s been one hour since that peace was shattered. The war is here again. The vampire war. Our world will burn. Our world will bleed! When anyone can turn, when every street is a battlefield, there is nowhere to run! V Wars: Blood and Fire features all new stories of the Vampire Wars by Kevin J. Anderson, Scott Sigler, Larry Corriea, Joe McKinney, Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro, Weston Ochse, James A. Moore, and Jonathan Maberry.
I’ve been hinting at an announcement for a few weeks now, and this is it: new print deal. I put out five books with Crown Publishing and loved both the process and the people. Tha Shiv was an excellent editor for my work. But, time marches on and it’s time to try something new. The books discussed below are YA, and Crown doesn’t do YA, so my agent went out and wrangled a new deal.
Executive Editor Mark Tavani at Ballantine Bantam Dell bought World Rights to a science fiction trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Scott Sigler. In the first book, ALIVE, a young woman awakes trapped in a confined space with no idea who she is or how she got there. She soon frees other young adults in the room and together they find that they are surrounded by the horrifying remains of a war long past…and matched against an enemy too horrible to imagine. Further adventures will follow in two more books, ALIGHT and AWAY. The books will be published under the Del Rey imprint. The deal was made by Byrd Leavell at Waxman Leavell. For rights information, please contact Denise Cronin at email@example.com.

Looks like I’ll be done with the final draft of THE CHAMPION (GFL V) by tomorrow. Then I have five days to tighten and polish before I head off on a Very Important Trip (the purpose of which I can’t yet tell you, but it’s good — hint only for people reading this on my site, it’s in New York City).
