Kelly the Builder (a.k.a., Junkie Kelly McArdle) has taken it upon his Quyth Leader self to engineer a Lego model of the P.U.V. James Keeling, also known as "The Crypt." Yes, this will be a whoop-ass, three-foot-long Lego model of everyone's favorite mysterious ship. These pictures show the internal frame he's using for the build.
Kelly's plan is to not only build this, but track instructions and a parts order sheet so that anyone can buy the goods and make their own model. Yes, that's what I just said right there.
When I was a kid, my very first scifi ships/armies/plots were built with Legos. I didn't make the ship shown on the box, I uses all the parts to make my own designs. I love Legos and this is super exciting to me. Kick that ass, Kelly the Builder!

Guest Goods: The FLAMES anthology
Author John Mierau is a rat bastard. While I was on tour, he broke into my office and left me a little recording about his new project, the FLAMES Anthology.
Now don't get me wrong -- John is one of the hardest-working guys in fiction. He's willing to do whatever it takes to bring attention to his work, including eating a super-freakin' hot pepper so John Scalzi would tweet about him. There is a video on that link. You should watch it.
While I respect John's work ethic, that doesn't change the fact that he is one creepy m-effer. Seriously, when the Future Dark Øverlord has to use the legal system to keep someone away? That's a Creepy McCreeperson. Want proof? Just look at that picture of him. I rest my case.
However, just because he's creepy doesn't mean I won't give credit where credit is due: the FLAMES Anthology sounds cool as hell. John has lined up some of the best names in the biz, including Jake Bible, Nathan Lowell, Brand Gamblin, Patrick McClean and more. Bible and McClean wrote CRYPT stories for us, and Lowell is working on the back-story of Gredok the Splithead as we speak, so these names just might be familiar to ya. Mierau has created a wicked plot concept, generating a shared world that spans both time and space.
So, I'm running his recording. I'm also using it as evidence to increase the distance that Creepy McCreeperson has to stay away from me, as required by law.
Awwwww ... (wait for it) ... SNAP!
It's almost here, Junkies, the second GFL novella, THE DETECTIVE.
This one is co-authored with one of my favorite authors, Matt "FN" Wallace (the FN doesn't stand for "Fillmore Nash," if you know what I mean). When I say "one of my favorite authors," I don't mean "one of my favorite podcast authors" or "one of my favorite giant, shambling mound of former pro wrestler authors," I mean one of my favorite authors, period.
Matt Wallace is a surly m-effer with a bad attitude. He can also flat-out write some really mean, nasty and touching fiction that -- if you'll pardon the vernacular -- keeps it real. He spins tales of latent tragedy and invetable, unavoidable demise that just gut me. In case you can't tell, I'm excited to bring this to y'all.
THE DETECTIVE is the story of Frederico Esteban Guissepe Gonzaga's search for the family of Quentin Barnes. "Fred" is a private detective and bodyguard that has worked for John Tweedy and had some unknown run-ins with Gredok the Splithead. In THE DETECTIVE, we learn about Fred's background and how he came to be the bad-ass that he is. I'm not sure if there are a lot of openly gay characters in YA fiction, but Fred is one of them (although this is probably as close as you can get to the edge of "YA" without teetering over into "PG-13" land).
Expect this bad boy in the Kindle store, on Nook, and at scottsigler.com/store in October, 2012.
Click on the image to see a bigger, badder version of the cover at Flickr.com.
Also? A pre-emptive "no, it's not about the Human Torch" answer to all of you smart-ass Junkies out there (and yes, Scott Pond, I'm talking to you).

| At the end of 2011, I set a rather ambitious goal of writing 1,000,000 new words of fiction in 2012. Emphasis on the word "new" -- editing doesn't count, blog posts don't count, the only thing that matters is new words for a piece of fiction.
I posted one update earlier this year, but now I must make the sad declaration: I will not reach this stretch goal in 2012. The "Meelion Word March" is dead. To make this work, I needed to write 3,000 words a day for 333 days of the year (plus a bonus 1,000 somewhere). That's about 90,000 words a month. I fell behind early in January and February, and after a low word count in March it was all but finished. I thought I might rally later in the year, but my Eeevil Plan™ failed to take into account two major things: editing, and the tour. Remember: editing doesn't count. If I edit, say, 80,000 words for the second draft of THE CRYPT: Book One, then that 80,000 doesn't count. Editing 80,000 words? Takes more than a day. Takes more than a week. All that time, no new words are being written. Then, add in the 2012 Tour, both East Coast and West Coast. I've tried writing on tour, and it's a real bitch to make good stuff. I basically wrote nothing on tour. Seeing as we spent upwards of five weeks on tour, six weeks if you count Balticon, ComicCon and Dragon*Con, that's a lot of lost writing days. Frankly, I didn't take that into consideration when I did the initial math (because 3,000 words a day is very, very do-able, if that's all that you do.). I just received Tha Shiv's notes for PANDEMIC's first draft. That means it's time for the second draft of PANDEMIC. There will be many new words in there, but I turned in 150,000 words (a 600-page novel) -- any edits to those existing 150,000 words will not count. As we roll into October, I am 410,000 words behind where I should be. Therefore, it's time to admit defeat, throw in the towel, tap out, etc. In 2013, maybe I'll make that the Half Meelion Word March and see if I can achieve the goal. |
Here's my word count so far this year:
|
What's that? Chicago is on the chopping block for PANDEMIC? Check out the great crowd we had in the Windy City, where I not only entertained fans of Da Bears but also did a walk-through of PANDEMIC's "path of destruction." You can see a couple of places where the action will go down in this third and final book in the INFECTED trilogy, due out Fall of 2013 from Crown Publishing.
This stuff makes me happy, and not in the "I will sever the heads of my enemies and watch their eyes slowly rot" way. David Fisk not only helped us pack a crap-ton of books, he shot video of my bald dome and gives a fairly accurate description of the tribulations of the Junkies. Check it out.
We drove through torrential rains to reach Pittsburgh and entertain dozens (and dozens) of happy Junkies. There was an infected child (with triangles), Steelers fans (sorry about that) and bathroom graffiti. Check out that GoDaddy coupon code 599scott, which gets you a new domain for just $5.99 (good for September, 2012 only).
"Whose house?" "OUR HOUSE!" A big celebration of all things Dark Øverlord as we visited our East Coast office in Bethlehem, PA, and had a reading/shindig/party afterward. Thanks to Donna Mugavero, the Diva øf Design for opening up her office to a heapin' helpin' of Junkies who came from New Jersey, all over Pennsylvania and even Ohio for the event. We even had a star sighting: musician George Hrab stopped by for the festivities.

The FDØ invades DC and eyes up which embassies will soon fall to his evil ways. Also, ARealGirl comes up with a great idea on how to "improve" the Lincoln Memorial. Five minutes of fun from the East Coast Tour.
Our fourth stop of the Sigler East Coast Tour took us to NYC, where we had some fun with the Keith & The Girl podcast (Keith also announces his undying love for the Orbiting Death in this video, in proper fashion: loud and offensive).
Here's video of our second stop on the tour, Chapel Hill, NC at Chapel Hill Comics. There was a hell hound. It was awesome, and also well-behaved. Big props to Mur Lafferty for helping us hook this up. We love her, so we'll kill her last.
Junkies, if you ordered THE MVP between Feb. 1, 2012 to Sept. 5, 2012, you have been emailed a link for your free eBook version of the same title. Click it, download it, enjoy it. We wanted to make sure the pre-order customers got the book first, so they wouldn't be tempted to buy it and get it before we sent the free copy (we wants your moneis, but not all your monies).
BUY IT RIGHT NOW FROM US!
Just click on the eBook image at right, then buy that DRM-free eBook for all formats (.mobi for Kindle, ePub for most other eReaders). And remember, when you buy an eBook directly from us, if somewhere down the road you switch eBook readers (say, from Kindle to Nook), you can come back to this site and download the book in the new format, for free.
BREAKDOWN OF RELEASE DATES ON EBOOK STORES:
We've uploaded to all vendors. Now, you just have to wait for the vendors themselves to process the book and put it in their stores. We have no control over this part.
• Amazon Kindle: 24-48 hours
• Nook: 24 hours to two weeks
• iTunes: 24 hours to two weeks
• Sony eReader: three weeks
As soon as all of these links are live, we will post them on THE MVP product page and announce it here, Facebook, at G+, on Twitter, in our newsletter, etc.
DON'T FORGET THOSE REVIEWS!
When you finish that eBook, remember that great reviews at Amazon, Goodreads and Barnes & Noble really help the cause. Customer book reviews sell books, folks, so if you enjoy it, share that news with others.
We're on the road, Junkies! Here's some sweet, sweet video of our first tour stop at Dragon*Con in Atlanta. See the full tour agenda at scottsigler.com/tour.
Fierst: DO NOT PANIC!
Second: What you see at right is the paperback/eBook cover for THE MVP. Adrian Bogart did the art, Scott Pond did the cover design and titles. Together, they are a tag team force of døøm.
Yes, that's Mum-O-Killowe on the left, bull-rushing an Isis Ice Storm offensive tackle.
Third: It's September 4, the day THE MVP eBook is supposed to ship out to y'all. When is it coming? The short answer is: any minute now. I had to make a few changes to the cover, which put us a little bit behind on finishing the eBook.
eBook delivery:
The eBook will be available shortly. That means if you ordered the hardcover, you will be sent an email with the download link as soon as it comes online. If you're waiting to get at the eBook on Kindle and Nook, it should be available at the same time. We're looking at today, possibly tomorrow.
audiobook delivery:
Our long-time producer Arioch Morningstar was unable to work on THE MVP audiobook. Because of that, ARealGirl and myself fell behind in the production. We are looking at the first week of October as our potential delivery date.
We're sorry for the delay, but pøøp happens. We'll get caught up just as soon as we can.

ARealGirl and the FDØ recently did a "Books & Beer" vidcast to discuss the realities of being an author in the digital age. Crack open a brew, watch, and enjoy. Also, Evo and Jeff from Books & Beer are trying to lock up a pair of panels at South by Southwest (SXSW). Give 'em some Junkie love by taking two minutes to click here, read what they want you to do, and then voting. And, yeah, Evo is the man behind Podiobooks.com, which gives you all of Scott's stories for free, so we'd love to help him out.
And here's a little video I did to put in the feed so subscribers would know the Books & Beer interview was here (it's too long to put in the feed, would keeeeeel your bandwidth). It's me packing for Dragon*Con! It's funny! Maybe!
Junkies, my apologies, when I posted the Day 4 video I linked to the Day 3 vid. So, Day 3 downloaded twice to bloat your iTunes, and you didn't get Day 4. Here it is. Click here to download the video. Yes, I am the 1% of wasting your bandwidth.
Wave that checkered flag! Here it is, Junkies, the final vid of our wee little documentary of packing your copies of THE MVP. The Post Office trucks came today to snag your books, so as of about 10am Pacific Time on August 27, 2012, the book missiles are in the air! There are a ton of Junkies in this vid, so check out some of your peeps. Also, Scott yells at a person. He is a meanie.

A whole mess of Junkies came in to help with Day 3 shipping. Much fun was had. No goats were sacrificed.
The last day of just ARealGirl and I before the Junkies show up to help. This video has giant bronze booties, wrestling burritos, and a surprise appearance by Rocky Balboa. Oh, a\nd some Bush.
ARealGirl and the FDØ knocked out one pallet of books as they kick off Day 1 of Hell Week. Three more pallets to go. That's just unboxing, signing, numbering and stacking, folks -- still have to do personalization.
Junkie Volunteers show up on Day 3. We are looking forward to it! However, don't count on "Hell Week: The Musical" to be finished in time to regail them with the dulcet tones of Scott "Cabaret" Sigler.
