You've all been letting us know what you think of the new site, and — more importantly — letting us know about problems and what you don't like about the new site. So, ARealGirl and Scott have dedicated this FridayFix™ to filling you in on the State of the Website. We cover a few things here including Crack Hits, m-effing SPAM, the future of Junkie Spam Killas and the hard work of site creators Tay and GK of BackMyBook.com and website designers Len Peralta and Matt Murray. Remember, if you find problems (like bad links, pages that got messed up in the conversion from old site to new, SPAM sneaking in like the sneaky bitch it is), email media@scottsigler.com and we'll get cracking on it. |
This episode of FridayFix™ is brought to you by our long-time sponsors GoDaddy.com. This is totally bad-ass. These cats use a program called "Z-Brush" to mock up a Ki from the GFL series (and from INFECTED, and from THE CRYPT, etc.). Just had to share it with y'all (thanks to @Belladonna420 for pointing this out to me).

TUCKER AND DALE VS. EVIL is clearly modeled on movies that openly embrace horror stereotypes, like SCREAM and the underrated FEAST. Where SCREAM looks at the teen slasher flicks and FEAST cuts up the clichés of killer monster movies, T&DvE pokes fun of the predictable mountain madman tropes by making the redneck the victim as opposed to the killer. Hard-working Tucker and overly sensitive Dale can't seem to stop the blood from flying. |

Welcome! It's crazy-whack-funky. We have a lot of bugs to work out here, Junkies, but we know that you all like to stick your nose into other people's business. Well, this is your business. A and I and the gang from BackMyBooks want to change the way we present my goodies. No, not that kind of goodies. You kiss your mother with that mouth? You'll be seeing more topical blogging from me on this site. We're adding some things to the sidebars that will make it easier for you to get your free stuff, and also easier for me to dip my bony Scrooge McDuck fingers into your wallet (i.e. "make it easier for people to buy stuff".) We will be adding things to the store, adding the rest of my books to the Library section, and in general just messing things up until we get it all right. We figure it will take two or three weeks to get this site properly broken in.
ARealGirl, Tay, GK and I say "bring it!" Start mucking about and breaking things. When you find bugs, and you will, email them to media@scottsigler.com. We'll prioritize, add them to our list, and start to make things all nice and smooth like a Diary Queen soft-serve. |

Yes, yes, I know it's not Friday. But it is a special day at the Lair of Døøm! Today is Scott's birthday! As you will see, he received a commeorative book of photos and stories from the Siglerverse and Siglerfest 2011. The book arrived a bit early, and Scott made the video above to … say thanks. Nice to see that no matter how old he is, he still down-to-earth. Many thanks to Bruce Press for graciously sharing his photos (most of the shots in the book are his) and to the Junkies who shared their stories of what Siglerism means to them. And mega-awesome thanks to Belladonna420 for her help collecting Junkie stories without tipping off the FDØ™. Happy birthday Sigler, my good friend, and many happy returns of the day.

Click here to listen to Scott's Mustache Rangers appearance! This week it's Thanksgiving in the US, and both Scott and I are on Secret Missions of DØM with our respective families. We hope you all are having a swell weekend. Since we're away, I'm introducing you to The Mustache Rangers. Funny, fast-witted, and unflappable, they invited Scott to inspire them a few episodes back, and this was the result. If you've not heard them before, consider subscribing. They are improv masters, no question, and who doesn't love to laugh? Not this guy, so I'm subscribed. |

"They mostly come out at night ... mostly ... "
NOCTURNAL is the upcoming horror/thriller from New York Times best-selling novelist Scott Sigler. It hits you in your face on April 3, 2012. Pre-order now:
![]() |
Pre-order autographed copies from Borderlands Books
NOCTURNAL is an epic story of mayhem set in the heart of San Francisco, where a group of people live in the city's unknown, underground ruins. They come out at night to prey on the "won't-bees," the dregs of society that won't be missed.
They've existed for hundreds of years, but are about to run headlong into Homicide detectives Bryan Clauser and Pookie Chang. It's a fight for existence as the police fight to stop a string of brutal, ritualistic occult murders.
NOCTURNAL is simultaneously a horror/thriller, a high-action comic book of a novel, and a throwback to classic 80s buddy-cop movies. If you're a child of the 80s, you'll love this one.

Yes, I'm growing this glorious face foliage to help out a good cause. I was clean-shaven on Nov. 1, and now I'm rocking the Day 22 Trucker Stache. The Stache is starting to talk to me ... telling me to do things ...
I was honored to be a guest on "Triangulation," a show hosted by TWiT superstars Leo Laporte and Tom Merrit. This is an hour-long interview covering lots of awesomosity. Leo and Tom ask me about the state of publishing, why my fan base is so important, and why I continue to give away content for free. Also? Feast your eyes on the Stache of Døøm™ in full video glory!

Finally, an Occupy Wall Street action with clear goals that makes
perfect sense to me. "Bank Transfer Day" is Saturday. People are
planning to transfer their money from big, national banks to local
credit unions. Great info in this linked story.
This is the
fundamental way consumers influence the market -- if you are unhappy
with a company, take your business elsewhere. Don't like Netflix's new
fees? Cancel your account. Don't like Facebook's privacy policy? Don't
use it. Don't like runaway bank fees or the way banks do business? Put
your money into another institution.
All the yelling, screaming,
sky-is-falling protesting and, yes, even drumming (sorry, you world-changing Drum Circlers) won't have anywhere
near the impact of consumers taking their business elsewhere. This isn't
blocking a port and stopping hard-working people from getting to their
jobs. This isn't a general strike that doesn't impact a specific
industry or company. This isn't some millionaire actor making a photo op
by protesting the same banking system that pays him to shill their
credit cards. This is the free market at work -- vote with your wallet.
Yes,
of course, there is often more to it than just not patronizing a
company, but the main thing every company needs is customers. Lose
enough customers, you lose revenue. Lose enough revenue, and companies
make changes to get new customers.

Click here to listen to the Carl Zimmer Interview!
Scott interviews Carl Zimmer about his awesome new book SCIENCE INK. Carl writes The Loom, and has a huge gallery of science tattoos on his site. He's just released a big, beautiful, full-color coffee table book of said science tattoo art. Scott counts Carl Zimmer as one of his big influencers, citing Carl's book PARASITE REX as an inspiration for INFECTED. So it's quite cool to note that Scott's empty set tattoo is featured in SCIENCE INK. |

Click here to download GuestGoods: Len Peralta Back with another GuestGoods, this time with artist, friend of DØM, and all-around good guy Len Peralta. Don't know his work? Oh, you will shortly. And you can even grab some for yourself, just like us! (Check us out as Villian vs. Hero below!) What is GuestGoods? Questions are simple: 1) What's your hot new thing? 2) What's in it for the Junkies? 3) Where can they find out more? From Len himself: Thanks to Scott and A for giving me this platform to hawk my wares and basically pimp myself out. I never miss a chance. A colleague of mine recently compared my approach to art to a “gunslinger”. I found that funny, beca use I have never heard that term in relation to a cartoonist before. As we chatted more, I got a better understanding of what he meant. He meant to say that I just run out there and take chances with my art. I don’t know if a project will end up working o r not, but in the end, it’s worth taking a chance rather than not doing the project at all. This is especially true of my current art project “50 vs. 50”. As with Monster By Mail (my other original art project), I created it with a specific goal in mind – to get myself to San Diego Comic Con. (Monster By Mail was created to hel[img_assist|nid=5917|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=195|height=250]p pay for heath care costs for the birth of my baby daughter). In the end, I drew 50 villains and 50 heroes and was able to make it to San Diego for the festivities. Now, in time for Halloween, I’m drawing 50 zombies and 50 apocalyptic survivors for people. There isn’t any specific goal in mind this time around. It’s really just a fun way to celebrate one of my favorite holidays. Folks can order a digital version of the art, or for a few extra dollars, they can get a signed print or even the original pen and ink artwork of their zombie or survivor. All in all, it adheres to my tenant of making commissionable original art for people affordable and cool. You can check out my heroes and villains gallery at http://www.the50vs50.com. And you can be the first zombie that shambles into the Zombie Gallery. (As of this writing, I haven’t drawn any zombies for this project, so the f ield is open.) You can also check out all my other projects (like my wildly popular nerdy trading card project “Geek A Week” and my avatar creation site Flipface) at my main website http://www.lenperalta.com. |
