Scott's blog I am a fancy-pants big-wig. I am horribly important and terribly busy. My wallet is too small for my $20s and my diamond shoes are too tight. People like me get to see shows before anyone else, because the opinion of our kind moves mountains. These are the reasons I have already seen the first episode of JJ Abram's new series ALCATRAZ.

Watch the trailer, then read on to see my scintilating review of this show, where I let JJ have it with both barrels.

The time has come, Junkies! Well, no, not exactly -- three weeks from tomorrow, it will come. Yes, the pre-order for THE MVP, Book IV of the GFL series is almost here.

It's early this year: Super Bowl Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 9:00am Pacific Time. Get ready, get online, and get yours!

But before all that, please listen to this quick FridayFix™ to make your ordering experience better and make things go as smoothly as possible later this year during shipping hell week. I swear it'll only take five minutes, and it's totally worth it. You don't even know, there are probably bunnies on this 'cast!

(Disclaimer:  there are no bunnies on this podcast.)

Junkies, let's see if we can make some noise at Tor.com's 2011 Reader's Choice Awards. You know we won't get any traction on other awards, as the reaction of most sci-fi fans who haven't read/listened to the series is "Oh, please, football? How pedestrian."

So, bust 'em in the mouth with a vote for THE ALL-PRO by clicking here, then placing a comment in on Tor's blog post

And, of course, spread the word. Get other Junkies to vote. Let's see how our community fares in the broader sci-fi space.

The BLOOD IS RED stories would also be eligible, so vote for your favorites as "short fiction" selections.

Scott's blog Junkie Cisco Cividanes sent me an awesome story that was reported in the Daily Mail.

That's right, human-engineered nightmarish "super soldier" ants with massive heads and "I must crush you" jaws that would make Ivan Drago proud. This is fascinating -- scientists smearing ant larvae with a particular hormone that activates legacy DNA the ant genome has carried for millions of years. Read the article, it's cool

This oversized ant engineering is eerily similar to my Parsec Award-winning short story "Eusocial Networking," written as part of J.C. Hutchins' Obsidian project. Now, if only someone could engineer some coprinus gongylophorus to secret biodiesel, and I'd be a gene-ee-us!

We're bringing back the Goreline now that we're in 2012 and on the new site! This one's a bit of a catch up, so listen to get up-to-date.

One answer got a bit garbled. I blame Scott's excitement over today's trip to New Orleans. It's regarding the choice of Sklorno names, and how they're a throwback to Old Earth football-centric cities. (That's what got garbled and cut out, so now you have all the info.)

Also, we need new calls!  If you want to hear your voice on the show, call 206-666-4673, or email an MP3 to media@scottsigler.com.

Scott's blog Know how sometimes chocolate gets dunked in your peanut butter, and some dude gets all excited and angry, and you're all like, "Just try it, Bro-Ski!" and he does and then he's all like, "Damn, playa! We might be onto something here!" and then you both consume so many calories you go find a hibernating bear and kick his ass out into the snow because -- dammit -- you just gotta crash?

That's what it's like when two of my favorite things come together, such as our Director of Døøm doing a guest voice for one of my favorite podcasts, EscapePod. ARealGirl did a part in the audio drama of "Bad Dogs Escape" by James Patrick Kelly. Also in the cast is one of my favorite scientists, John Cmar.

Enjoy!

Scott's blog Junkies, I screwed up. I asked fan and rocker Joshua Loya (from the band Arimathea) if we could use his track "Sirens" as the music for Somalia Midor's group Trench Warfare in THE STARTER audiobook. Josha said "hell yes." The agreement was that I was supposed to name the band in the credits, thereby giving the group a little Siglerism Bump.

Trouble is, I forgot to mention them in the credits. Dammit.

So to make it right, I'm posting some links to the song. If you listened to THE STARTER, you'll recognize the tune from Quentin's night out on Isis. Snag the track for your collection, and -- of course -- rock the hell out.

The song "Sirens" is $0.99, and the full four-song EP that includes "Sirens" is $3.69.

And the tradition continues.  Scott and I sit down with a little bit of beer and an obscenely huge peanut butter cup to discuss the year that was for Dark Øverlord. And the year that will be. And Scott's continuing plans for world domination.

Happy New Year!  If you're heading out to celebrate, stay safe!

A's blog Hello from your Director of Døøm. As 2011 comes to a close, we've been plotting what's upcoming in 2012, and getting ready for the battle, errr … I mean, the year ahead.  Here's what it looks like from here:

January: will see new merchandise in the Sigler Store. We'll have "Dig the Sig" tees in the store shortly, and a few more tees coming by month's end.

February 4th: is Superbowl Saturday, and is the launch of the pre-order for THE MVP (Galactic Football League Book 4).  Pre-order starts at 9:00am PST on 2/4/12, and not one second sooner!

March: Our second ebook-only collection of short stories, BONES ARE WHITE will drop (probably).

April 3: Scott's next book from Crown, NOCTURNAL, comes out in hardcover. A five-city book tour is under consideration for the first week, but you can and should pre-order right this minute as we're stirring up some fun rewards for pre-ordering, and it doesn't matter when you do it. So, use some of those holiday gift cards to secure your treat right now!

End of May: will see both Scott and me at Balticon 46!  This is such a great con, and we're already looking forward to it.

June: is a super busy behind-the-scenes month for us. We'll be working on putting the print version of THE MVP to bed, and recording the audiobook as well.

July? Ooooof. Might just have to breathe a little. San Diego ComicCon is on the books as a potential visit for Scott, and a sure thing for me.

August 20 - 24: is the MVP Shipping "Hell Week." We'll be opening this up for volunteers again. Come join the fun!  And right after that we head to Dragon*Con in Atlanta over Labor Day Weekend.

September 4: is THE MVP's official publication date. At this moment there is talk of a potential MVP Tailgate Tour. If it happens, we'll do that in September as well.

October 12 & 13: SiglerFest 2012, Las Vegas, NV.  Details to follow, but it's on, Junkies!

November 2 - 4: Scott is a featured guest at CONvolution in San Fran/Burlingame.

November and December: are currently heavily weighted for writing time, as you've seen these last two month of this year. While there will be three Sigler publications in 2012 (NOCTURNAL, BONES ARE WHITE and THE MVP) Scott is also slated to complete PANDEMIC before the year is out.

That's what the year ahead looks like for us at the moment.  What big things are brewing for y'all?

Scott's blog What did I get for Christmas? My long-suffering fandom for the Detroit Lions was finally rewarded with ... wait for it ... a playoff appearance.

Puh-puh-puh-playoffs

Yes, playoffs. They won on Christmas Eve, which meant I was in a bar drinking beers on the day before Christmas. It was my duty, people, I didn't want to do it. I even took a picture after the game (at right).

Now I hope your Christmas / Kwanza / Athiesta / Festivus / ChakaKahn / Holy Day of Charlie the Unicorn time is filled with friends, family, nog (both the egg and the grain alcohol varieties), pets, the undead (fictional only), turkey, pie, kids (sedated, of course), more pie, some football, Tuaca, tater tots, naps, fire trucks, chicks and general happiness.

ARealGirl and I are thrilled you hang out on this site and spend your time with us. If we were with you, we'd swallow your soul, but since your not in our living rooms we will have to settle for wishing you all the best during the holiday season.

Oh, and one more thing -- yes, look at the picture below. What's that? Did I start posting my undying love for the Lion in fucking print back during the 0-16 season? Why, yes ... yes I did. This is from the inside front cover of THE ROOKIE. That's how much my fandom means to me. So, yeah, Merry Christmas to me. Now, back to the Tuaca ...
Time for a little horror-movie battle, all "holiday style." Me and Martha Stewart were knocking back shots of Tuaca, and we got to talking about the most heart-warming holiday flicks. Here's our take on a couple of landmark moments in cinema history: 1997's JACK FROST, or the Goldberg vehicle SANTA'S SLAY from 2005.

So, you need to listen to get all the goods, but it's a happy Christmas Eve Eve here at the Lair of Døøm™. We're celebrating the collaboration with IDW that will publish in summer 2012. Chris Ryall, editor in chief at IDW, joins to tell us all about it.

PS:  I'm a little hot in this audio at the beginning. Not surprisingly, I got over-excited and too close to the mic. Bah!  Nonetheless, it's worth you hanging on through that to hear the news.

We went to the vet yesterday to have her look at the latest "strange bump" on our old dog Emma. Emma is almost 14. She's part lab, part German shorthair pointer, so 14 is crazy old. That's 98 in dog years, or about 214 in "big dog years."

That's Emma at right, in her younger days, finishing off an insolent stuffed animal that had the audacity to squeak at her. She's the inspiration for the Ancestor, and also featured -- by name -- in NOCTURNAL.

Read on only if you like sad stories about dogs. You know who you are.

Sometimes, things are just too f-ing awesome for words. But then again, words are my business, so I persevere and fling them about like a caged monkey hurling poo. Few things make my Very Important Author head swell up more than when someone gets Sigler Ink, a.k.a., a tat from one of my creations.

I've been meaning to post this one for awhile. Everyone, meet Sara Simmons. Sara, meet everyone. Sara's latest choice of ink is a tattoo of a blue triangle ... on her lip. Yeah. It's like that. I tried to deal with the level of kick-ass, but I just couldn't. Feel free to leave a comment here, or toss one up on the Facebook photo page of this goodness

Oh, and not only is "g-g-g-gimme no lip" an appropriate phrase, it also happens to be a song from one of my favorite 80s metal bands
Yes, I'm posting multiple things today. Yes, I posted a Ki video last week. But, this is f-ing awesome and when it moves you really see how intimidating this would be on a football field. Great work by nolianaelf18.

You've all been letting us know what you think of the new site, and — more importantly — letting us know about problems and what you don't like about the new site. So, ARealGirl and Scott have dedicated this FridayFix™ to filling you in on the State of the Website.

We cover a few things here including Crack Hits, m-effing SPAM, the future of Junkie Spam Killas and the hard work of site creators Tay and GK of BackMyBook.com and website designers Len Peralta and Matt Murray.

Remember, if you find problems (like bad links, pages that got messed up in the conversion from old site to new, SPAM sneaking in like the sneaky bitch it is), email media@scottsigler.com and we'll get cracking on it.

The Hennepin County Library was kind enough to bring me out to Minneapolis for the event "Paperless Authors: An Evening With Scott Sigler." So we did our literary thing, then we got down to the business of bowling. I bowled a 310. I met a ton of Junkies, they tried to give life to Scott Pigler Jr. by infusing him with Reeses Pieces, and we threw down Midwest style. Thanks to Kamelion13 for shooting this vid (because we all know he only shot one frame and I hit a strike, he didn't shoot every frame for two games until he caught me nailin' a strike, because I was all like murdering those pins, ya feel me?).

Also, check out my new victory dance. I need a name for this dance, any ideas?
Minneapolis area, prepare to be slathered in Sigler Stank. Think of it as A1 Steak Sauce, only with more than one letter and one number. You need a library card for this, but any library card will do!

Scott's blog
This is totally bad-ass. These cats use a program called "Z-Brush" to mock up a Ki from the GFL series (and from INFECTED, and from THE CRYPT, etc.). Just had to share it with y'all (thanks to @Belladonna420 for pointing this out to me).
Scott's blog TUCKER AND DALE VS. EVIL is clearly modeled on movies that openly embrace horror stereotypes, like SCREAM and the underrated FEAST. Where SCREAM looks at the teen slasher flicks and FEAST cuts up the clichés of killer monster movies, T&DvE pokes fun of the predictable mountain madman tropes by making the redneck the victim as opposed to the killer. Hard-working Tucker and overly sensitive Dale can't seem to stop the blood from flying.
Scott's blog

Welcome! It's crazy-whack-funky. We have a lot of bugs to work out here, Junkies, but we know that you all like to stick your nose into other people's business. Well, this is your business. A and I and the gang from BackMyBooks want to change the way we present my goodies.

No, not that kind of goodies. You kiss your mother with that mouth?

You'll be seeing more topical blogging from me on this site. We're adding some things to the sidebars that will make it easier for you to get your free stuff, and also easier for me to dip my bony Scrooge McDuck fingers into your wallet (i.e. "make it easier for people to buy stuff".)

We will be adding things to the store, adding the rest of my books to the Library section, and in general just messing things up until we get it all right.

We figure it will take two or three weeks to get this site properly broken in. ARealGirl, Tay, GK and I say "bring it!" Start mucking about and breaking things.

When you find bugs, and you will, email them to media@scottsigler.com. We'll prioritize, add them to our list, and start to make things all nice and smooth like a Diary Queen soft-serve.

Yes, yes, I know it's not Friday. But it is a special day at the Lair of Døøm!  Today is Scott's birthday!

As you will see, he received a commeorative book of photos and stories from the Siglerverse and Siglerfest 2011. The book arrived a bit early, and Scott made the video above to … say thanks.  Nice to see that no matter how old he is, he still down-to-earth.

Many thanks to Bruce Press for graciously sharing his photos (most of the shots in the book are his) and to the Junkies who shared their stories of what Siglerism means to them.  And mega-awesome thanks to Belladonna420 for her help collecting Junkie stories without tipping off the FDØ™.

Happy birthday Sigler, my good friend, and many happy returns of the day.
