THE MVP pre-order: the numbers, the book, and you.

It took us fifteen hours to sell 1,000 copies of THE MVP. Fifteen is not a lot of hours:

In 2009 it took us 13 days to sell 1,000 copies of THE ROOKIE.
In 2010 it took us 6 days to sell 1,000 copies of THE STARTER.
In 2011 it took us 3 days to sell 1,000 copies of THE ALL-PRO.

Do they ever say "the fourth time's the charm?" If not, I might start saying that myself; try and make it a thing. Scott and I have been very happy with our year-over-year performance, but I won't lie: it is some kind of wonderful to be able to move 1,000 copies of a premium-priced, plushed-out hardcover in less than one day.

As always, this is only possible due to the dedication and tenacity of the exceptional people willing to walk this road with us. We are humbled by how extensively #junkiesfuckingrock, and we continue to strive for perfection because it's the best way to honor the commitment you guys make to our dreams.

I am immeasurably proud to be part of bringing Quentin's continuing quest out of Scott's mind and into our reality, and it warms my tiny black heart to see that so many people are excited about it too.

If you are looking for exact numbers, they won't be forthcoming. I'm a girl who takes managing expectations seriously, and there's simply no good way to do both things.

If you are wondering how many books we're printing, the answer is we don't yet know. It'll be between 2,000 and 3,000, and where it falls depends on how many books are pre-sold between now and July 1st, when we have to give the printer our final details and finished files.

If you are wondering if THE MVP is worth the wait … oh hells yes it is. I promise.

If we could sustain the same sales level for 3-4 days, yes, it would. About 2,500 copies in hardcover will put you on the NY Times hardcover best-seller list, probably Top-20 to Top-15 depending on what other books are out that week. If we sold 1,000 copies a day for the first three days, we'd be up there for sure.

At least, we should be up there if we sold that many. The Times has it's own formula, and we'd literally have to talk to someone there who could see our sales figures. The Times does not truck with bullshit, they have to check these things out.

Still, knowing that in 15 hours, we are 1/3 of the way to a Top-10 NYT best-seller, and we're just selling from our little-ol' website, and we have no advertising or distribution? Yeah. We're all swaggery.

Scott, I attempted to order one book, but because of the 505 Bad Gateway errors due to heavy load in the first few minutes, I ended up ordering and being charged for three. How can I cancel the extras?

That's tremendous! 1,000 copies in 1 day is huge. Great job DØM and BMB and anyone else that is affiliated to a very successful pre-order.

Will there always be a max of 3,000 hard cover first run of the GFL books? If you were to sell out 3000 within the pre-order cycle would that be it or would you increase the numbers (and thereby decrease the rarity) of later books or would you do a second run and leave the first run at no more than 3000?

They only produced 2,000 copies of THE ALL-PRO because of storage reasons.

If everything goes well with the GFL series it's possible we might be able to see these books in paperback form.

It would take one hell of a pre-order to make us go over 3,000, for sure. That being said, if 4,000 people want to pay six months in advance for the book, we're going to give them the book.

He (the FDØ) buys socks with the scratch, then stands in an elevator, facing the back, and quietly announces to the other occupants, "I have new socks." It's really terrifying to behold.
