The iTouch fails to suck!
The iPhone locks your sorry ass into AT&T (crappy crappy & crappy) I miss the always on internet, but with the WiFi built into the Touch, you're pretty much good to go whereever...

iPod Touch does not have
but it still kicks serious butt. I'm in a wifi dead zone at my office, but i just walk down the hall to jump on th enet. Minor inconvenience.

My iTouch shipped with the headphones which have a microphone built into them. I was kind of surprised at how well it works. You have to use those headphones if you want to use Voice Control.
Also, when I activate the Maps App, my iTouch knows exactly where I am. I do not know if this is connected to WiFi somehow, but my guess is that it is GPS related.

specifics
The iPod doesn't have a microphone built into it - like the mouthpiece for the iphone. You can only get it through a set of headphones that have the microphone included; mine, for instance, did not come with those lovely headphones, so no microphone for me. I guess I should have said that it doesn't have a built-in microphone.
I'm very curious to know if you can use those headphone/microphones to make a skype call. The Touch will not let you pair your typical cell phone bluetooth headset to it; it only allows non-microphone bluetooth accessories to pair.
And the location determination thing is based on wifi; there's no GPS.

Yeah, I was totally oblivious about the vocal input aspect....
.....when I went iTouch. I was like, "Well, it has Skype with WiFi, why the hell do I need an iPhone?!?"
It will be interesting to see if I can use Skype to make calls with the Touch. I'm betting they locked it down, considering how Nazi-esque Apple tends to be about things.

The iPod Touch vs. The iPhone
I am in agreement that the iPhone is a much cooler gadget than the iPod Touch but that being said it locks you into crappy AT&T service and thus is not acceptable. Verizon all the way baby, better coverage, better service. Once the iPhone comes out for Verizon I will be first in line to buy that shit, till then I will be more than satisfied with the iPod Touch.
The new versions of the iPod touch, the 32 and 64 gig versions, have faster processers than their predecessors and come with Apple's standard earbuds with a remote + mic. The remote lets you pause/play music/video and the mic works for more than just voice searching. Oh yes, much more! like Skype! I have downloaded skype and used it make calls and it has worked perfectly. But before you think this will replace your cellphone,please remember that you only can use skype where there is a wireless signal and short of you buying the Verizon Mifi, this means you're up shit creek without a paddle in most location away from your home, office, starbucks, mcdonalds, and/or borders bookstores.
That does not mean the iPod touch is worthless. It will still allow you to follow searched directions and really is the best way to watch video while flying. The interface when it coems to typing is the BEST out there. I'm not an Apple die-hard but they do make some good shit and their multi-touch typing system is one of them. I actually use my iPod touch too look at things like Facebook, and update podcasts on the go. Movies are likewise awesome; YES the screen is small compared to a laptop but it is a HELL of a lot bigger than the iPod nano or Classic. But it does play dvd's very well
Last but not least it really is the most cost-effective way to praise your FDO via the Scott Sigler App of Evil. That alone should be enough to flood apple's coffers with lots and lots of junkie-bucks.

I bought my 64GB model quite recently
I doubt I will ever upgrade to an iPhone unless they completely eliminate the need for a contract altogether.
I simply don't use enough minutes to make it worthwhile. I might use 150-250 in an average YEAR. I've been quite content with my "disposable" cellphone for several years now.

Got caught up on the tweets while waiting around today. Tried looking up to see the ranking on iTunes, but couldn't figure that out.
I have a 1st generation iTouch and I love it. No, it doesn't have speakers and the headset with mic doesn't work with it (so no Skype), but the 2nd generation does. I can play all the cool games and get all my podcasts and music. I have a phone if I want to make a call.
The hubby is loving his iPhone, he had to get a new phone, so why not get him a new toy? And the Droid doesn't work on AT & T (yet).
we share the common
we share the common mentality of just buying what we want when we want it. so when it comes time for a 'gift giving' day, we're pretty content with what we have, and now with the kiddies it's usually all about them (or will be 'them' once this second guy comes along). we try to take a trip or two just for us each year, but in terms of gift giving we give it a big pass.

Rearing spawn makes all the difference in the world. They change your entire reality bubble. While I have yet to meet a parent who regrets having children (which is as it should be), they do require a incredible devotion of both your finances & time.
Neither my ex-wife nor I had any interest in having kids. We are both buy it as we want it types though. That made the gift giving all that much more challenging. It became a total game of loving deceit. One of the best parts of our marriage. We're still best friends. Hell, I gave her away at her second wedding.
Have I mentioned that I'm just a bit uncoventional?

i looked around and Android is based on java programming. i did take java in college, but let's just say i did less than stellar. i've no clue what iPhone apps are programmed under, or if there is an easy way to transition them. hopefully some junkies have the know-how and we can spread this around.

I bet you could contact the iPhone developer and he'd answer any ?s you might have regarding transitioning. Every Junkie (and author) I've ever contacted has been most accomodating.
