Check out the goods - the final INFECTED hardcover just came in. The orange INFECTED is all raised and glossy, totally fly. Yes, I said "fly," understand my 80s upbringing and love me for me. This cover was designed by Kyle "The Krusher" Kolker over at Crown Publishing, with guidance by my kick-ass editor Julian "The Shiv" Pavia.
Does this make it more "real," as one Junkie said? A little, but not that much -- all of my attention is focused on April 1. I'm doing everything possible (and adding some impossible) to make this be-yotch soar on that day. As Conan once said, what is most important in life is: "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
The "enemy" is big publishing (Crown excluded, of course!) Their "woman" is the Gray Lady, the New York Times Bestseller list.

The real trick is the delay factor ...
The real problem is people stock up podcast episodes and listen in batches. I, for example, listen to EscapePod every two months. I just max out on it till I'm caught up. Same with Pseudopod. Even This Week in Science, I tend to listen to a month's worth in five one-hour sessions. So trying to time this to get the message out 3-4 weeks early, allowing for the message to hit at the right time regardless of consumption delays, has been a bit of a balancing act.Exellent stategery.....
The publishing industry has misunderestimated you! In this way you are able to create a steady stream on interest with a gradual increase in exposure all the way up to the release date. All without drastically increasing the amount of advertising you do... Like ultra cool time release capsules of marketing mojo. My hats off to you... Now I 'know' I have to make it down to Houston...
