About A Kovacs

ALIGHT Episode #17

The Birthday Children were hit with the huge revelation as to what their forehead symbols mean. Em, the leader, was meant to be a slave, a realization that sends shockwaves through the community. The strange ship that landed in Uchmal held one passenger — Bello, thought missing for so long. Bello is back at the shuttle, but Em doesn’t trust that her friend is all she appears to be. Becket, Muller and Coyotl rode Coyotl’s spider to that ship to see if Beckett, a gear, could fly it, but they are long overdue. Did Barkah’s people take them? Bishop and Bawden have gone looking for the missing Birthday Children.

ALIGHT Episode #16

Em has just learned that Spingate is pregnant with Gaston’s child — how will this affect the group? The Xolotl had only one shuttle, which the Birthday Children took to reach the surface, but in the last episode an unknown ship descended to the planet and landed somewhere within the walls of Uchmal. Who or what is on that ship?

Friday Fix • 66 Best Movie Taglines

A few weeks back we ran a Friday Fix where Scott quizzed me on the Top 50 worst tag lines. It was fun, but I can’t say I did all that well.

This week we’re back with the Top 66 best tag lines, and I won’t lie — I don’t fare much better.

If you want to play along with us, here’s the link Scott was using.

Scott mentions a sweet Key & Peele skit about Gremlins 2. You can check that out here.

ALIGHT Episode #14

Visca was killed by Springers, and the Birthday Children want revenge With Aramovsky calling for all-out war, Em and Spingate offer an alternative — the two of them will hike into the jungle and try to make contact with the species. FridayFix • PHXCC Panel
“Trope Talk: Comedic Relief”

A quick fun Friday Fix for your ear holes! Scott was on the panel “Trope Talk: Comedic Relief” at this year’s Phoenix Comic Con a few weeks back.  And you Junkies know that Scott’s work includes some great comedic tropes, include the sublimely sassy sidekick we all know and love, Detective Pookie Chang.

This is a live recording of the panel, so there’s a little room noise, but I think you’ll enjoy it, so take a listen!

ALIGHT Episode #12

Em, Kalle, Bishop, Visca, Borjigin and Coyotl set out to find those they call “the fire-builders,” people who knew how to defeat the toxic mold and make Omeyocan’s food safe to eat. The Birthday Children found those people — and also discovered they aren’t people at all.

Friday Fix • Michael J. Sullivan

At Phoenix Comicon, ARealGirl and Scott were joined by another tag-team writing/business pair: author Michael J. Sullivan and his wife Robin. Michael does the writing of the Rirya Chronicles stories, Robin handles the business side of things. A fascinating little talk about self publishing leading to the big time.

ALIGHT Episode #11

Em, Bishop, Aramovsky, Spingate, O’Malley and Visca found their way into the depths of the Observatory, a building of such immensity it defies the imagination. Inside, they learned of some history from Ometeotl, a sentient computer that has sat silent for centuries. But the Birthday Children soon realized they weren’t the only ones down there — with movement in the shadows, they fled the Observatory. As night falls and a storm rages through the city, they despeartely rush back to the shuttle, to their people, and to safety

FridayFix • Worst Movie Taglines

Working on some taglines for the Generations Trilogy, Scott surfed the web for example of great taglines.

Lucky for you, and perhaps unlucky for me, Scott found this list of the worst movie taglines.

Scott quizzes A on these best worst movie taglines of all time. A … does not do well.

ALIGHT Episode #10

Em, Bishop, Aramovsky, Spingate, O’Malley and Visca were climbing the Observatory’s 3,000 steps, trying to reach the pinnacle to find a way inside the massive mountain of stone. At the 25th plateau of this huge ziggurat, which is covered in images of death and torture, they found something unexpected — a tall, vine-covered ancient statue of Em.

Friday Fix • Captain America Civil War Spoilercast

This past week Sigler and I both saw Captain America Civil War. We sat down to talk about it, and we had feels. And some of those feels are about 1970’s and 1980’s pop culture, which is kind of weird, but there you go.

I’ll say again that this is a true spoilercast, and this is your final warning.

ALIGHT Episode #8

Em knows she has to put pressure on Spingate to solve the poisonous mold problem. Solve it, or starve. And, Em is convinced that O’Malley is hiding a critical bit of information, holding something back that could make all the difference in the survival of the Birthday Children. In this episode, Em finds out what that secret it.

FridayFix • Purple Rain

Scott & ARealGirl saw the Prince epic on the big screen: a review & celebration of his life

This week’s FridayFix is a post-viewing chat Scott and ARealGirl had after watching Prince’s Purple Rain on the big screen.

http://media.blubrry.com/scottsigler/media.libsyn.com/scottsigler/170_FridayFix___Purple_Rain_on_the_Big_Screen.mp3

If you somehow hadn’t heard, Prince died last week. As a celebration, Purple Rain came back to theatres for a short run. Tickets were inexpensive, and part of the ticket price went to charity. And we found out (in some ways) you can go home again after all.

ALIGHT Episode #6

Em, Bishop, Spingate, Coytol and Farrar returned from their trip to the jungle. Em suffered a bad wound to her lower leg. When they returned to the shuttle, they learned that Aramovsky opened the coffins on the lower decks, releasing 168 new people. They had little food to begin with, and now have more than twice as many mouths to feed. Em went to see Dr. Smith to repair her leg.

FridayFix • Empty Set chats with Richard Kadrey

JRichard and Scottunkies! Another great author interview this week!

We were at Emerald City Comic Con this past weekend, and we had the great pleasure of sitting down with Richard Kadrey, author of the Sandman Slim novels. He’s got a new book coming out soon called the Everything Box.

This was such a fun, meandering chat, which covers so much ground. So if you like Scott’s stuff, or LA, or stealing cars, or scotch, just trust me and take a listen.

You can find Richard at @Richard_Kadrey on Twitter, @rkadrey on Instagram, and at richardkadrey.com.
